I am not sold on disposable blades, except on skinning knives, and certain utility purposes (i.e. Stanley blade)

  1. “Stanley No.99” is the standard fixed-blade utility knife. Been around for a long, long time. Standard trapezoid blades . . . I bought a “box of 1000” about 30 years ago. Still have about 3/4 of a box. Carbon steel blades. My wife has a “Stanley 10-823”, a folder with a bright green handle. It is her e-Bay box cutter . . .

    So, this “Razorback” (Isn’t a razorback an Arkansas wild hog?) costs $25-30 and a pack of replacement blades (Proprietary) will run about $12-14. Thumb studs and jimping . . .

    My Dad’s “99” hangs on my work shed pegboard. I changed hundreds of blades on that tool as a kid working for him in the 1960’s. Dad was a master craftsman in the floor & tile business. That “99” with the checkered-grips opened hundreds of floor tile cartons (Anybody remember 9″x 9″ vinyl asbestos tile?). Sharpened a few No. 2 pencils, too. My Dad’s main flooring knife was a hawkbill with the swell-center wood handle**. He was very particular about the brand he bought. He got his through “Armstrong” in Lancaster, PA. I know this because I would drive his “Econoline” van there to pick up rolls of linoleum ceramic tile and flooring tile. That van would be loaded to the max!! Probably exceeded the 1/2 ton weight limit.

    **These handles were hardwood, e.g. maple. I have used them to re-handle knives and files.

    Going outside . . . I am way behind on tending to the garden. Flower beds need attention.
