  2. Riffing on the Onion-man! I get it. Once upon a time when I was in the Navy, I went to a “ramp” festival somewhere in North Carolina. I drank a few beers and entered the ramp-eating contest. Ramps are powerful and potent kin to garlic and other odoriferous bulbs. I did not win the contest and I never again ate a ramp!

  3. CMEAT: A leek is a vegetable of the Allium family, i.e. think onion, garlic et al. My curiosity did not reveal a connection to a Kershaw knife. I reckon that a Kershaw blade would be good to slice up a leek. Like onions, leeks are a good source of vitamins A C and K; minerals such as iron and manganese; and dietary fiber. Kershaw uses 8Cr13MoV (aka Chinese stainless) quite a bit for its blades. Manganese runs about one percent in the steel matrix. Still, I can not figure why Kershaw would name a knife: Leek.

    Next up: Byrd (Spyderco) . . . Admiral Byrd?

  5. That is a great photo of Houston and Al! I betcha they are swapping knife stories in the heavens. My Al Mar story involves the late great Bill Moran and Aubrey “Barney” Barnes, MS. “Barney” related to me the time when he and Bill were traveling to a knife show somewhere in the Midwest. Several miles after leaving their motel they realized they had forgotten a couple of Al Mar knives. That must have sucked! Al must have given Bill Moran some knives during their time on earth. I was fortunate to acquire one of them at the annual “Bill Moran Annual All Forge Knife Show and Auction” held at Bill’s forge in Middletown, Maryland held at Bill’s historic forge in Middletown, Maryland each October. I really enjoyed the word search puzzle. Hocky
