As we gladly put 2020 in the rear view mirror, there is no guarantee that 2020 was not just a sign of things to come, a prelude to 2021, and the future.
So what do we do?
If you wait to buy supplies and equipment until they are needed, there will be no supplies to be had.
If you do not train for the fight, and suddenly the fight happens happens, you will lose.
If you do not get in good physical shape, Your quality of life will be poor…if you survive
If you do not continue to learn, you will perpetuate your ignorance
If you do not prepare, for the small fights in life, you will not achieve success
If you are not prepared, to win the ultimate fight for life, you will perish
Preparation is the key to success, always! To win at anything and everything you must be prepared with:
Your equipment should be the latest and greatest, it needs to be well serviced, you are required to be skilled and confident with it, and you MUST have it with you, or it does you no good
Your body is your temple, treat it as such, be intelligent with it. Make it strong and enduring, so give it aerobic activity and resistance training. Feed it with good nourishing food that includes protein. Give your body enough rest. Weigh yourself daily, know what your body is doing. Do not do bad things to your body. You would step out in front of a fast moving truck right? That would mangle your body and kill you quickly. Then why would you put bad things into your body that will kill you slowly. Be smart and disciplined with your body.
There is no possible victory in defense. The sword is more important than the shield, skill is more important than either, the final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.
Equipment, and body will not win the fight for you without the mindset to get it done. The mind must carry a skills toolbox that can unleash, with skill, your equipment with your body as the connection between the two. Your mind is where create, maintain, and keep ready, your skill and ability to prevail in all things. It is from the mind that we have awareness, knowledge, experience, decision making, strategy, control, composure, confidence, will, desire, fortitude, and commitment.
Without proper preparation of the mind, and with the mind, training the body to use the equipment in the best way possible, the equipment will mean little.
“Carrying a gun no more makes you safe than holding a guitar no more makes you a musician”
Train and prepare properly, with your mind, and you will set yourself up to prevail.
Nothing gets done without the desire to do it, and then see it through to fruition.
I learned a lot from my dad, he always told me “If your going to do something, do it with your own hands, have the right tools, and do it right”. I grew up helping my dad to build things, and to repair things (a lot). I learned much about attitude as we often broke two things to fix one.
Having a good attitude through life fixes just about everything. Nothing worthwhile is going to be easy, and it shouldn’t be. If it is too easy, if there is little risk, if the challenge is too small, then what is the reward for achieving it?
The harder the task, the greater the reward. Make no mistake about it, you have to want it. When it’s difficult, when it hurts, when it sucks, you have to want to be there, in the trenches, and embrace the suck. You have to be there, in it, in the fight, to win it. So embrace the hard part, the Challenge!
I wish you a Happy New Year filled with the things that you want in life, but most of all I wish you challenge.
Challenge is opportunity to achieve, therefore; we need challenge to be successful.
Our attitude toward the challenge and how we handle it will make the difference between success and failure.
Ultimately, we need to use the all of the tools available to us to succeed in any challenge, to win the small fights OF life, and to prevail in the ultimate fight FOR life.
