In the knife world people often talk down on injection molded plastic handles. These are often called things like FRN or Grivory (among other acronyms and trademarks), but they’re all a plastic injection molded to the handle shape with some sort of supporting material added (like fiberglass, carbon fiber, etc.). People online often criticize these types of handles and claim they feel cheap, are less durable, and other such nonsense. Well in this article I’ll give you 5 solid reasons why I love plastic handles on knives and think they deserve more appreciation in the community.
I prefer micarta, but plastic has its place too.

silly.
i don’t see how the medium has an effect on ergonomics. handles of petrified swamp thing scat can be ergonomic.
i’m the first to say the spydie frn directional grippiness is out standing. but until you’re holding it, it looks cheap. traction is a product of design, not material. my mini grip is wonderful, but the scales are kinda lame.
unique patterns… it can all be done with anything. molds just make it less expensive.
many plastics are durable, but there are more durable materials. again, the spydie plastics have a great design, but i could smooth those teeth out eventually just by fidgeting ala worry stone.
cost is a given. one die and thousands of repeatable designs.
weight is really the advantage here, for those counting grams. otherwise i pursue g10 and micarta (or exotics).
