Edge Retention Source: KnifeCenter So, you tell me…Are knives too expensive? 1 Tags: David C. Andersen KnifeCenter 1 Comment Reply Hocky May 4, 2021 8:15 am I believe that Andersen gets it right when he speaks to the $30-50 knives in conjunction with the person’s purpose for the knife they are buying. The ‘Morakniv’ line of knives is an example of reasonable cost for useful performance. I am a custom knife enthusiast. I prefer to buy a knife from a sole authorship knife maker. A Leatherman Skeletool in 154CM; and, a Spyderco Dragonfly 2 “Wharnie” in VG-10 are my production EDCs. A custom fixed blade rides on my right side. Expense? Most of my custom fixed blades (EDC) cost me $100-300 including a leather sheath. They are one-of-a-kind, absolutely handsome and functional tools in high-carbon steels. The “heart and soul” of the knifemaker can be seen and felt in these knives. Production fixed blades in the $100-300 range have their purpose to whatever that may be to the user. I think most fixed blade knives with “super steel” are overpriced. I think most “designer” folding knives in “super steel” and superfluous adornments are ridiculously overpriced. People should remember that a knife is meant to cut. Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
