S45VN Ranger is the Last 2021 Buck of the Month

Source: KnifeNews

We know how fast these things sell out, so we’ll try and make this quick: the final 2021 Buck of the Month knife has been released. It’s a souped up 112 Ranger, packing a luxury look that doesn’t skip on the practical appeal.

You know all about the Ranger. You know all about it because it’s the little brother to what is arguably the most famous folding knife of the 20th century, the Buck 110 Folding Hunter. But here’s a quick recap, in case you’ve forgotten: the Ranger 112 takes the enduring 110 design and reduces the dimensions, resulting in something that’s a little easier to carry in indoor and other mundane settings. Lots of people EDC the original 110, but the 112 better fits the modern definition of the term. You’ve got a 3-inch blade, done up with the California clip style; an overall length of 7.25 inches (compare that to the 3.75-inch blade and 7.86-inch OAL of the original); and a no-fuss, ambidextrous back lock mechanism. The handle is unadorned and arched, accommodating just about any kind of grip you’d need to use with it.

Want. But I won’t end up pulling the trigger for the price. But I love the scales, and the 112 is a little more practical to carry.

carried these for years. surrendered one at old comiskey (young, dumber) to see world series of rock, aerosmith (tyler was plastered, forgot many lyrics), jeff beck/ jan hammer and derringer. 7/10-76 the summer heat caused the roofing over the right field upper deck to spontaneously combust. friends i had become separated from were nearly trampled in the ensuing stampede. they left, i was in left so no smoke.
i grew away from clip points. some of the “lite” or auto versions have toned the tips upsweep some. i always liked the finger guard design on the front bolster/ pivot more than the straighter one on the 110.
they were all heavy workhorses. lighter, better steel and an adjustable (looks like) pvot are all improvements.

Such an iconic knife company. I was about 20 years old, my faithful 110 was always on my hip. One day I used it as a prybar, can still hear that dreaded snap. Sent the pieces asking what it would cost to replace the blade. A while later in the mail came a brand new shiny model 110. That wasn’t the best par, I also receive a letter from Chuck Buck, he appreciated my honest saying how I broke the blade and looked after me. Not how many CEOs look after customers like that these days? Possibly Buck still does, I hope so! Have a Great Christmas everyone!

Great story, Del. The Buck 110 was the knife that pulled me into my knife obsession, like so many others. My dad’s (now mine), fills me with so many memories that I don’t think any other object can, barring a few cars. Although, the 112 Ranger was the first, and prolly most carried blade I’ve had. I love knowing I can send these knives in if need be, but is unlikely, unless I use it as prybar.

Awesome memories Jason, I think Buck would still look after you even if you did bust a blade using it as a prybar!

I think that everyone may remember my “Ranger” from my underwater days. Clay posted a picture of it. I do not carry it these days. I do bring it out of the “keepsake” drawer and fidget with it, clean up the brass and oil it. Many memories from six patrols on the USS George Bancroft, SSBN643 Blue Crew, 1975-78.
