Hey everyone. We hope you are hanging in there. No Sports, No Knife Shows, No Bars…What is a knife lover to do?
If you haven’t entered our Crossword Contest, kill some time, learn a thing or two, and try to win a Spyderco Native 5.
Knife Magazine’s Knife Glossary Crossword Contest – Win a Spyderco Native 5
Last weekend we were giving away a Browning Speed Load All Season. We have our first 2nd Time Winner – Primus. Next time his coworker hits a deer, he could use the knife to process it.
This week we are giving away a Browning Wicked Wing flipper. Based off of their Featherweight fixed blade, I really dig this one. Great action.
Obviously there are no knife shows this weekend. Check our Events Calendar to get the latest as shows reschedule.
This is the Open Thread, so fire away. Up to 5 comments or replies count towards our drawing. So tell us what is on your mind. Open thread away. We only had 5 total comments last week, tough all were quite personal tales of peoples’ experiences in the Great Hunkering.
Let’s see if we can’t get the conversation going. Has your EDC changed for hunkering around the home?

The above meme is an actual image of me celebrating my birthday yesterday. Now that I’m spending more time at home, I’ve been bustin’ out some of my vintage, forged axes and hatchets. I heat solely with wood, so I get to be productive while playing with my collection. Had to lay off all my people, cut back to a few hours of curbside beer and food to go, and had a water main break in front of the brewery causing a water shut off followed by a boil notice. To top it all off, I have know way to support my knife habit. I’m hoping to sit down with this crossword soon. Thanks for putting it together, Clay. Stay healthy.

PRIMUS, Congratulations of winning the Browning. Re a trade for your $2 Gerber . . . you aren’t serious about a Leatherman Wingman? Gerber multi-tools are paperweights. CLAY: I thoroughly enjoyed the Crossword. Submitted it to you a few minutes ago. I sent a Comment with the finished puzzle. Laughed at myself when I spelled: STILLETO. OOPS! I laughed again at “Elephant’s Toe Nail”. There has to be a knife joke somewhere when comparing a “Sunfish” to an “Elephant’s Toenail”. I have a friend who is a wonderful blade smith, Steve Nuckels in Hagerstown. I own two of his custom forged “Toenails”. Here’s a shout out for the Bill Moran Museum and Foundation!! The 2020 Annual All Forge Knife Show is scheduled for October. God willing this COVID-19 will be long gone by then. To everyone, Stay Healthy and Stay Sharp. Hocky
Primus
Thank, Hocky! Good luck to you in this round!
Hey, I don’t want people to think I’m unreasonable, so I’ll add not one but six rolls of TP and a bottle of Purell Tony offer. I assume that I have your attention, now?
In truth, being home so much and carrying the multi tool more – every little annoying loose handle, knob, cabinet door… boom! Fixed! One setback, it is a heavy beast to lug around – not like that Browning Carbon Carry I won earlier in the contest. That thing is light, sharp, and comfortable to carry. Definitely recommended!
Stay healthy, everyone!

jace, what town is brewery? i’ll figure it out from there. we’ve got sketchbook, temperence, smiley’s and the f.e.w. distillery here in the home of the w.c.t.u. sketchbook is a csb, community supported, where you subscribe for fills ahead of time for a set of months.
i too was alerted to my incorrect spelling of stilleto by the puzzle.
did a little social distancing in the work trucks ladt night. then a small gathering at a local garage. baby groot closed the lakefront! i’ll bet i can still get down there… but no bocce yet. horseshoes and hand sanitizer? i still have jarts.
there would be no better time than now to zoom along the bicycle path on a honda ruckus. or an electric skateboard.
they’ll never catch me. never could on mini bikes either. it would get close when the chain popped off… then pull away at the last second to their swiping at air and cursing, “little bastards!

Puzzle submitted! Thanks for the Saturday morning puzzle! It was fun over coffee!
I’m in that group that likes the no hump look of this Spyderco. The Native just looks sleek.
We had more rain earlier this morning. Heading out back to pull some of my over-wintered onions If it’s dry enough the tilling will commence along with some some planting..
My preferred yard work companion is an Opinel 9 in stainless. Love that thing
Stay safe!

Clay, nice job with the crossword. I can’t believe how large knife magazine’s glossary is. What are the handles on this knife made of?
Mark Rusch
Clay, I’ve searched, but can’t find anyone currently making that” 10 down Jack”. Any suggestions? I’m thinking that could quickly become my weekend go to.
s23taylor
What movies are you guys watching this weekend? I need to find something decent to watch.

CMEAT, My brewery (Solera) is in a small unincorporated community called Parkdale in OR at the base of Mt Hood. I’m scraping by on growler sales, but have made the decision to only fill growlers that I’ve personally cleaned and sanitized, that’s become the extent of my brewery work, cleaning and filling growlers not kegs. MARK, I completely agree with your Spyderco statement. Never owned one because of the esthetics, perhaps if I win one, my opinion might be changed. I’ve also never owned an Opinel, but have always been intrigued. The price point is still within reach. If I don’t win a knife here, I might just pick one up to stave off my knife addiction shakes. Taylor, the handle is made from stainless steel and has a two-tone G-10 scale design.
H. Clay Aalders
Miracle. I needed a Sports and Yeah America fix.
s23taylor
Jason, thanks for the info on the handle material. Nice to see 2 time g10 being used on some more budget friendly knives.
s23taylor
Just curious, where’s everyone located geographically? Knoxville TN here.
H. Clay Aalders
Ditto. When this social distancing thing winds down, we need to check out the axe throwing bar
s23taylor
I have a $35 voucher for Kershaw from warranty work they couldn’t fix and I can’t decide between the Camshaft, the Dividend with aluminum scales(possibly m390 version if they have it), and the epistle. Thoughts?
Primus
Huge THANK YOU to Knife Magazine and Browning for this awesome contest and opportunity! The SpeedLoadAll Season looks like a real quality knife. I have no doubt that it do a fine job. I look forward to testing it out while social distancing as much as possible!
Good luck to everyone this week and make sure you get your crossword puzzle in soon!
Stay healthy, everyone!

I am only familiar with the Dividend. If I recall it correctly I liked it.

Axe throwing is cool and all, so are lawn darts and horseshoes, but the best back yard game is Tejo. I stumbled into a bar in Columbia a few years ago and got hooked. Essentially horseshoes, but the shoes are stones and the post is paper squares filled with gunpowder. WIKI: Tejo (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈte.xo]), also known, to a lesser degree, as turmequé (pronounced [tuɾˈme.ke]), is a traditional throwing sport in Colombia. It is characteristic for its use of small targets containing gunpowder, which explode on impact.

… and Tayler, Dividend for sure. I’ve handled a couple recently and have since been put on my wishlist. What was the voucher for? Just curious, manufacturing flaw or hard use?
