Sorry folks, I couldn’t come up with a catchy and amusing title. I tried. The novelty of the situation has worn a bit thin at this point, and it doesn’t look like it will be ending in the foreseeable future. They have turned up the screws in Tennessee. I made it into the office for 2 hours, since press day is next week and we have an issue to get out. Plus Mark’s house (the Knife Magazine office) is on the way to the Kroger. So after next Monday, I will probably limit my stops in to when I am making a food run once a week.
Of course, trying to work from home has its own challenges when you have an 11 and 9 year old…
I was never a homeschool hater, but I have a newfound respect for those that take on that mantle voluntarily. I don’t think I could do this for the next 9 years. I will stick to coaching lacrosse and helping with Cub Scouts. Someday…
Obviously, there are no knife shows going on at the moment. Some have rescheduled, so be sure to check out our Events Calendar for the latest.
I haven’t forgotten about the giveaway, courtesy of Browning Knives. Last week’s Browning Wicked Wing flipper is on its way to Oregon, to Jason K. Turns out to be a late birthday present, since his was a bit of a bummer: (his comment refers to last week’s meme).
Jason is part owner of Solera Brewery, whose business, like so many, is getting absolutely pummeled. If you want to help out a regular contributor to our comment community here at KnifeMagazine.com, he has a merch page with tshirts, hats, and other such things.
You can also like their Facebook Page if you are so inclined.
This week we are giving away a pair of items from Browning Knives’ 2020 new product lineup. There is a Range ball-bearing flipper, and the second of the Night Seeker 2 clip-on flashlights.
Same rules as always for the Weekend Open Thread. Your first 5 comments or replies are counted as entries, and Jason sits this one out, but is of course welcome to comment.
The rest of you, have at it. Let us know how you are holding up. We are all going to get through this, but in the mean time let us at least have a little fun in this community we are building. Speaking of that, what did you all think of the Word Search?
Knife Magazine’s 50 Company Word Search. Win a 40th Anniversary AL Mar S.E.R.E.
Have you given it a try? The Al Mar is a nice knife.
Finally, I leave you with this inspirational thought…
Be safe folks.

Congratulations and belated happy birthday to JasonK! That Bowning Wicked Wing flipper looks awesome!
Clay’s memes are spot on (as always) but I literally laughed out loud on the last one.
I’ll definitely be giving that word search a shot- I always liked those kinds of games.

Word search was good. What is everyone caring on their weekly quarantine grocery run?

Taylor, I’m keeping it really simple – CRKT K.I.S.S., Browning Carbon Carry, and pocket sized bottle of hand sanitizer (found it in a junk drawer – good thing I never throw anything away).
Feels really strange wearing a mask in public places. That’s going to take a while to get used to.
Anybody think it would be ok to walk around in an Ironman mask?

out and about every day, work and stuff. gotta shop for mom (93) but she doesn’t need much.
still jacket weather so a 75compact and unusually, a spare full size mag. bk14 in front pocket, native5 this week in cargo. jetbeam raptor as well. lost one of my sob punch daggers. the sheathes aren’t too snug…

Made a run over to sister-in-law’s earlier to pick up a couple dozen fresh eggs. (She has several chickens) . Then a quick grocery store trip for my eldest’s family. They’re recovering from some other flu bug. Had my faithful Opinel 9 In front left pocket; Gerber Architect attached to some old no name keychain light that’s on its last legs. In one of my jacket pockets.
I’ve really come to appreciate just how handy a small flashlight is.
Grey, rainy and low 40’s isn’t pleasant gardening weather. Maybe play a whittling later.
And a home schooling meme for you,Clay:

Hot Dog, we have a wiener! Today I’m carrying my Kershaw/Emerson CQC and my Eagtac D25A Clicky lite. Speaking of Kershaw. Taylor , what was the issue with your Kershaw repair, factory flaw or operator error, and have you made a decision on either the Dividend or Camshaft? Yesterday I dressed up one of my Moras. Filed the spine, multiple layers of mustard designs for patina, wrapped the sheath with hooks, line, and water tabs underneath the paracord, attached a ferro rod and handle retention. Haven’t had to go to a store (except NAPA) for quite a while. I’m lucky enough to live in a farming valley. Fresh meat, fruit and veggies all in the neighborhood.

Jason K, I had a Kershaw selectfire that developed bad blade play and inconsistent lock up that they couldn’t replace since it’s been discontinued. I decided to try out the new Kershaw highball and went ahead and got a dividend too.
Primus
JasonK, what version of the Kershaw/Emerson CQC? The 3k and the 2k aren’t easy to find in good condition. I can’t tell whether not many were made (maybe not enough people wanted the smaller blades?) or whether the people who have them aren’t giving them up.
Stay healthy and safe!
Jason K
Taylor, never handled the selctfire, but could see how it could fail multiple ways. I love that Kershaw put out a knife that emulates a multitool, but focussing on the blade, not the other way around. A big thanks to Clay for the shout out to my Brewery, things are rough for everyone. Do any other contributors to this forum have ways others here could help them out? Speak up. Play it forward.
cmeat
this too shall pass.
the dividend is close to a perfect blade shape for me. assisted opening is a dirty way to make a flipper; i like it but you’ll need some backup springs (free from source) and to pull back on the fidgeting. the thing is, you can find them in m390.

Right, lockdown is not that fun. It’s ok for a few days but well, for weeks, I don’t know. It sounds crazy to me. Of course, I have wood to carve but still, I need people. Anyway, in case you’re in the same boat, wondering what to do next, then check out my latest article on wood carving projects for the lockdown: https://woodcarving4u.com/wood-carving-projects-for-your-quarantine/
Laughed at the pic on how to handle a knife. Love your site overall. Thanks.

Cool site. I am going to share that post on the feed tomorrow.
