Knife Truths

Fill in the Meme Contest: Unpopular Truths Edition

Seems like everyone wants the LatestAndGreatestSuperTerrificHappySteel™ in their EDC, but fact is, for 90% or more of the people a more value oriented steel is plenty good enough. 80% or more probably can’t properly sharpen anything much farther up the food chain.

Of course there is about a $50 limit or so above which the blade-buying public wants to see something better than that, but from a functional point of view most people aren’t breaking down 100’s of feet of cardboard in a single day. I keep my 20 year old  Spyderco Sharpmaker screwed into a workbench, and I spend 30 seconds touching up the edge whenever I feel it needs it. In a pinch you can put a quite serviceable edge on an 8Cr13MoV blade just using the top of a car window or the unglazed bottom rim of a coffee mug.

That is just one “Unpopular Truth” in the knife industry? What are some others?

Leave a comment with your unpopular knife truth, and you will be entered to win a Condor Kephart. We had one left over after our 100 Knives in 100 Days Giveaway, so it seems like a good opportunity to encourage folks to participate.

You must be a free Registered User, or a Premium Online Member to win. Maximum of 3 entries per person, and please put them as separate comments.

Feel free to agree or disagree with my meme, or the “Unpopular Truths” of others. Keep it civil, and have fun.  I think this is a topic that should generate comments, even without the contest. We will pick several of the best, and will probably have you all vote on the winner.
