A lame attempt at humor I admit, but I needed to start somewhere. Needless to say, I, like many Americans is feeling a little morose this weekend.

I was a 25 year old grad student on 9-11. I was engaged, and married shortly after, and my wife and I were talking about how it has been a constant backdrop throughout our entire “grown up” lives. The events of the past month have left me seething “with the white hot intensity of 1000 suns.”

Add to that the current extra-Constitutional gibberish being spouted by administration, and it is hard not to feel like we are in a much worse place than where we were 20 years ago. In so many ways.

Well, at least some good may come of it.

Ok, enough of that. You didn’t come here for me to be harshing your weekend mood. You came for the memes.

Its the weekend, and there are 3 shows, well 2 shows and a Hammer in…

It is a finely produced implement to be sure.

Speaking of new knives…Mark R. Wins the Vero Engineering. He was the first on to be drawn twice, and he wins his pick of the 3. I will drop him a line to find out his choice.

As for the next contest, I am going to give away a Hoffner Hand Spear. This is a picture from the 100 Knives in 100 days Giveaway when we launched the website. The one we are giving away is all black.

It will again be a double drawing. Mark has to sit out for two weeks before I will count his comments in the drawing.

  1. On “Russlocks”, I think this was a creative pattern by Case. The “clip point” blade IS dramatic with its swooping style. I do not see the ‘utility’ in this blade pattern. I agree with JASON K, . . . the Goldenrod bone makes it a looker and the banjo shield makes it unique.

  2. CMEAT, I been intrigued by the Russlock for a while too. Got a drop point, as the clip point is pretty drastic. Doesn’t look right to me. Mine has significant play in the blade when open, not side to side. Having a backspring on this type of opening is little odd as well, think I’d like it more if it were a friction folder. Sho is Purdy tho.

    this is my favorite time of year so a little heel dragging is in order.
    a little probitas, a little kronan punsch and some lime. yup.

  4. Clay, thank you and the Veros very much. I’ve never owned a knife this nice. I’m not sure what to do with it! I’m sure I’ll figure it out! Maybe I’ll just take Hocky’s advice!

  5. MARK: I bet you are a HAPPY MAN today! Now, only use this hi-tech knife for slicing cheese, beef sticks, fruits & vegetables and other foodstuffs. I didn’t look at it, does it have a bottle opener? Toothpick & tweezers? Clay: I got to admit, that “Prospector” is a nice-looking big guy mitt-fitter. . . or, as you stated, “A finely produced implement”. I went to “Edgeworks” in Frederick, MD, today. An “In the Street” festival going on. The “Moran Foundation” set up a booth outside of the knife store. I spent most of my time IN THE KNIFE STORE! Sean Norris, owner, has an outstanding selection of all kinds of knives, custom and production. I discovered he is very knowledgeable on SAKS (Ref: Why “no toothpick nor tweezer” in the Alox line-up?) Basically, it is all about the “build” of the Alox vs. Cellidor, i.e. riveted Alox scales vs. Cellidor on liners. It is the “thickness”, . . . yuk, yuk. Clay got close with his “90 degree angle” theory. The biggest benefit of visiting a brick ‘n mortar knife store is that I get to “handle” all the different knives. This makes decision-making much easier when one gets to actually “feel” the knife in hand. Great Saturday!

        1. There is a lot of football to go. Them “Ducks” played tough. I was rooting for the Vols. Never cared for Pitt. Now, tonight, the home state “Terps” play the”Howard” ???.I got to look that up.

        2. I went to the University of Dallas. No football team. We had high academics and didn’t give sports scholarships. A true recipe to establish a sports dynasty,
          Our one and only claim to fame was in baseball. Back in the 80s we made the inside cover of Sports Illustrated “Faces in the Crowd”. The title was “The University of Dallas In a Class By Itself.” We set the record for most consecutive losses by a 4 year college. As they were approaching the record the local sports guys ran stories like “And the Crusaders of the University of Dallas…..lost again!” The entire DFW area was rooting for the record! And once we had it, there were many office pools going on who we would finally beat to end the streak!

          1. Great story, Mark. Sounds like a good time to be alive. Reminded me of a Netflix doc I recently watched. Battered Bastards of Baseball, Portland, OR minor league. A great film whether or not you care about the sport. Congrats on the new blade. Got a new/old Case Russlock, Goldenrod bone with a banjo shield. Had never seen the banjo shield before, had to have it.

          2. always been intrigued by the russlock. fairly drastic clip point, but for small edc that should prove useful.
            my tribal lock has a little blade play in all directions, but it’s pretty satisfying in a snappy kind of way.
            also casually looking for a copperlock wharny.
