Howdy folks…

I saw the above on the way to pick up my kids from school the other day. I made the meme myself sitting in Car Line. I have probably seen every episode of Have Gun, Will Travel. I started watching it during middle of the night feedings. I ended up DVR’ing the rest.

 

This is one of the dumbest “controversies” I have ever seen. But it has made for some great memes…

It is nice to have some topical memes this week.

My wife is a Wordle person. I am not. But it is amusing to watch people get into something so simple.

 

I see what they did there…

What I did was draw Del Corsi as our first “token holder” for the second of our Spartan Astor. This one is in Black, though the picture is of the one I finally got out in the mail this week. You must be drawn twice to win this knife. Unless you are Del.

  1. On “GroundHog Day”, . . . on a visit to “Washington Street Pawn”, I bought a TOPS “HOG 4.5” and a TOPS “Fieldcraft Brothers of Bushcraft” (BOB), both with sheaths and in pristine condition. First “TOPS” that I have owned. Made in Ucon, Idaho, USA is a BIG factor for me liking this company founded by Special Ops men in 1998. Oh, “1095HC” is a primary steel . . . Tough, tough and more tough. Interesting feature on the “BOB” is the “bow drill divot” . . . I probably will use my Zippo or waterproofed matches to start a fire when necessary. Now for the weather in Hagerstown . . . icy rain. A good day for cleaning & waxing my customs.

  2. “Popeye” this Monday morning: “We Aim to Please”, (1934). “Onions are a beautiful thing . . .” in the theme song by Olive and Popeye makes me teary-eyed. Wimpy has his, “I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger and pickle today.” Plus, Olive shows her culinary skills wielding a nicely forged chef’s knife making a half-dozen ham sandwiches for Bluto. (In 1934, those six ham sandwiches cost “ten cents” each . . . Bluto tore up the $0.60 bill and proceeded to pummel Popeye. Olive pulled a No. 20 can of spinach from under the counter which Popeye speed-ate with a fork. He processed Bluto into a sausage.)

    Clay: What can you say about Cincinnati? The “Bearcats”went for the College Football title; now the “Bengals” in the Super Bowl and the “Reds” (I still call them the “Red Legs”. . . ) have a shot in MLB. Makes you forget “Cleveland” a bit more, I reckon.

    CMEAT: USS Zamboni sounds like a “fish” . . . but, isn’t a “zamboni” a sandwich of some kind?

    1. yes, a canadian hoagy usually with spatchcocked pelican, but in some regions octopus is substituted. seved cold, with ice shavings and warm water.

    2. I may need a Zamboni come Thursday! Forecast says “up to”. 3 inches of ice starting tomorrow after dark until noonThursday! Nobody knows how to drive on ice…except Zamboni drivers!

      1. most locales do not warrant the purchase, but more fun than chains are studdable tires like vredestine (wintrac), nokian (hakkapaletta) and the only b’stone i would consider, blizzak.
        we put sheet metal screws in our dirt bike knobs.

      2. Have I got a Zamboni for you Mark. Farmtruck and Azyn from the Street Outlaws series built the “Zamborghini”, a souped up hot rod of a beast! They built it for the Vegas Knights. Don’t remember all the specs, but they showed it racing and blowing the doors off a Lamborghini and two other fast cars. Not sure how good the snow scraper works? 🙂

  3. i like the duct tape on the tank barrel for squirrel mitigation.
    young had some great stuff. the soundtrack for “dead man” (j. janusch) is unique. i was reading meters at a glencoe dentist office and darryl hannah was waiting to have her teefusses cleened.
    no clue as to how that wordle is germanic. “hau wech die scheisse!”
    how did the spare tire (that powered the windshield squirty juice) get so hot as to steam? i remember a kid in muskegon scratching his head trying to “fill ‘er up” on my squareback.
    is that the u.s.s. zamboni?
    regarding chicken love (the north end of a chicken facing south according to national lampoon), make sure to watch a black and white short david lynch film, “what did jack do?” a lot of fun for some, he sort of clutch cargos a reses monkeys lips.
    time to revisit “a scanner darkly,” turns out to be fairly prophetic in regards to some current events.

  6. I love that Stihl blade, would have had some fun putting that on one of the fallers saws, too funny! We had some wild crews. The bear in the pool reminds me of a great story. The bosses son ran the loader, would load the first trucks in the A.M, still dark. One trucker came extra early, hid his truck and was hiding when the kid went to start the loader. We were seeing bears everywhere where we were logging, the kid was so scared of bears. The trucker had a full bear cape, he snuck up wearing it, just as the kid had climbed the steps and reached for the loader door the guy started growling, grabbed his foot too. The kid turned around kicking and screaming, almost had a heart attack. The trucker snuck up on a few others that day. No doubt there was some reckoning for that trucker.

  7. Paladin, Have Gun Will Travel, every Saturday my wife and I watch Rifleman, Wagon Train, Wanted Dead or Alive/Steve McQueen, great TV! Guns are a touch smaller than the one your photo shows Clay!

      1. Great reminder Mark, I forgot Zorro, Lone Ranger, Cisco Kid, Gunsmoke, which I still watch every day. Was too cool to see the boat James Arness’ owned in Hawaii, called the “Seasmoke”. I missed mentioning Rawhide as well! Growing up the go to channel was KVOS-TV from Bellingham, Frisky Frolics started the Saturday lineup!

        1. My brother had a Zoro kit. I remember the mask and sword. The sword had a tip that could hold a piece chalk so you could “make the sign of the zee”! He got pretty good at it while making the swishing sound of the sword.

  10. VW Bug . . . gotta know ’em. “Spot-A-Fly” might be like a “Port-A-Potty” . . . I stick with Neil Young. I scored some oldies CDs at the “Hope Center” . . . including CSN&Y; and, a ’60s group “The Orioles” (. . . just had to buy it because of “Earl”). My “new” 2008 F-150 has a CD player. (I still have the ’03 with the cassette deck and about 200 cassettes! Spring is coming (Somebody shoot that groundhog . . .) and the ’03 will see service for hauling mulch and such while I listen to “Meatloaf”‘s “Bat Out of Hell”.

    The “boat in the hockey rink” is a good one! Is there a NHL team called the “Bubbleheads”?

    Speaking of submarines, I bought “Run Silent, Run Deep” and “Cold is the Sea” at the used bookstore this week. Now, I am searching for the other books by Cmdr. Beach, i.e. “Dust on the Sea” et al.

    Jason K: I came close to finding a “6-dot (1974) Case). Alas, it was a “62052” Case, 7-dot (1973), “Congress”. According to my go- to reference book, “Official Price Guide to Collector’s Knives” Houston Price; this knife is a bit peculiar in that the 1970-72 pattern had bone scales and the ’73 is Delrin slabs. Just like you discovered with the “Circle-C (ase)” knife which I thought was “1974” but is actually a “1994” with red bone scales (Verified by the Case guru at their historical department). Well, I will keep looking for your “birthday” Case.

    The Stihl “little blade” is hilarious. Reminds of the “Seinfeld” episode where George has “shrinkage”,. . . Hocky out.

    1. Thanks for keeping an eye out Hocky. I should send you my slip joint wishlist, you seem to know where to look out there. Almost into February and have yet to purchase my first knife of 2022. Almost picked up an old novelty sodbuster type knife with Stihl branding. I’m fond of both Stihl and sodbusters. “Like a frightened turtle!” – George Costanza. I too will stick with Neil. It’s easy to dismiss Joe Rogan as a moron, so I’m going to keep doing that. Knives.

        1. “Will Do” on “RS,RD”! Regarding books, Dirk Cussler, son of the late author Clive Cussler, is carrying on his father’s “Dirk Pitt” novels with “The Devil’s Sea” c. 2021. Clive passed in 2020. He founded the “National Underwater Marine Agency (NUMA)”.

  11. The reason no one talks about Gonzo and Camilla is because they never tried to hide their relationship! Sure, there was some talk in the early 80’s, but we moved on long ago. It’s the cover up that’ll get you in trouble!
