Weekend Open Thread: Mildly Upset Edition

Greetings and Salutations People of the Knife…

You have made it through another week, and there isn’t even any football to occupy your weekend. I shared the lead meme this week on our facebook. I don’t remember who I stole it from, but it was on about a dozen pages. And they all stole it themselves.

Or as TSwift would put it…

“All Your Base Are Belong to Us” is really old-school internet. One of the first memes. Look it up. I bet you a nickle that before you finish the word “base”, google will have autofilled it.

The “OP” or “original poster”  of the Mad Kelce meme is likely lost to history. But the template was the winner of the week.

Well…you can’t.

Call your cable company and tell them.

What do you think he was saying? Wrong answers only in the comments.

I have a lacrosse scrimmage to coach and ref tomorrow. It is 12:30 now. I am not looking forward to the alarm in the morning.

That one goes out to our friend Rick Koslowski, a Chicagoland knife fanatic with a name that would suggest he knows his way around a Polish doughnut.

Even OSHA got in on the fun…

You know it is widespread when the government starts meming about something.

An Ed Sheeran doll would be truly terrifying.

Couldn’t help it. While I am not going to waste energy hating on Ms, Swift, I can’t be expected to pass on a good meme.

Speaking of winning the Super Bowl…

The wrong Kelce is getting all the attention.

Taking a look at the KNIFE Magazine Events Calendar…

Nothing listed for this week, but Blade Show Texas is coming up next weekend.

Ignore last year’s date in the listing below. For some reason the preview shows the original entry date.

Blade Show Texas

As is customary, I usually drop in a musical number before switching over to more random and less current event oriented memes.

Old Crow is far and away my favorite band I discovered post-college. My wife and I went to see them several years ago at the Tennessee Theater, and it was a heck of a show. While no one will do this song as well as The Band, they certainly do it justice, and it is on one of history’s most famous stages.

I had the whole set. In die cast form, at a 1:64 scale.

Guys will never change.

But the technology does.

Better than Cuba…

To quote Fake Joseph Stalin, “Dark Humor is like food…”

I resemble that remark

Good question.

For.The.Win. (If you don’t like your MIL)

I have actually been stuck in quicksand twice. It smells bad.

Wait. Whut?

The Nokia 3310 is the most powerful force in the universe.

If you peel away half the sticker, you win a prize.

Speaking of Prizes, it is Knife drawing time!

I still need to send out Heather’s knife from last week, and I need to drop a line to Mark R. and figure out the current best way to send him something and not have it “lost” en route.

Del is the winner of the CRKT Minimalist Persian if he wants it. Next week we will be drawing for a CRKT Ripsnort 2…

Usual rules apply. 5 comments or replies are your entries. If you are new to the blog, your first comments will be held in moderation until I can approve them. From then on, you will be good to go.

Good luck everyone.

Let us know in the comments.

Can’t unsee.

Didn’t expect that.

If you remember, you remember.

I remember this too…

The memories last longer than the gum.

Every time.

Yeah.  You don’t want to listen to me.

Big ones.

That isn’t good

Busted.

Kill it with fire.

Shots fired.

That escalated quickly.

They would be paralyzed.

It is just payback for what they did to us.

The internet never disappoints.

I loved The Dark Tower series.

No. No I will not.

Hope everyone had a good Valentine’s day.

Uh-Oh. Better call a professional.

That’s a fact, Jack!

I want one.

At least the machine wasn’t broken.  Quit yer complainin’

It has an earthy flavor when you auger in.

What is your DnD Hot Dog alignment?

YOu can’t have too much garlic.

Switching gears…

Two big events in the Gaza war this week…First, the IDF rescued a pair of hostages this week. Second, the IDF discovered a significant Hamas tunnel system and IT hub under the UNWRA headquarters.

From NY Post:

Israel says it has uncovered a Hamas tunnel network under the headquarters of the embattled UN Palestinian refugee agency in Gaza City — and that the secret system siphoned electricity directly from the site.

Footage uploaded to X on Saturday shows a sprawling tunnel system under the HQs for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees that ran nearly 60 feet deep and a half-mile long, with one of 10 entrances found near a UNRWA school, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

Electrical equipment at the scene suggests that the militants siphoned energy from the relief organization to power its terror infrastructure, the IDF said.

I have been using my platform each week since October 7th, to speak up in support of the State of Israel as it does what it must do to protect its citizens.

I will not stay silent and watch as people openly support a genocidal organization. “Never Again is Now”. I will continue to use my voice until Israel declares victory.

As that always throws a wet blanket on the jocularity, but we are professionals here at the WOT.

We are just limited in what we can do when reality upstages imagination.

So we will play you out with the song that put Old Crow on the map – Wagon Wheel.

I don’t have a problem that Darius Rucker of Hootie and the Blowfish covered the song more successfully  than OCMS, but I do take issue wit the fact that one can’t “(head) West from the Cumberland Gap, to Johnson City, Tennessee”.  Johnson City is about 50 miles Southeast of the Cumberland Gap.

What most folks don’t know is that Bob Dylan originally wrote the refrain and recorded it amidst a jam session during the filming of Oat Garret and Billy the Kid. OCMS wrote versus for the chorus and a hit song was born.

That’s about it for now.

Remember…

Have a good one.
