“Sharon is bringing dessert”

If you have never seen it, a couple of years ago, a woman named Sharon Weiss got roasted worse than her pie, when she publicly complained to Marie Callendar.

Apparently, her oven got switched to centigrade and the oven was cranking full blast trying to reach 700 degrees Fahrenheit (topping out somewhere north of 500). Whoops.

It is really hard to believe that Thanksgiving is this week.

 

So obviously, there are no shows next weekend. But this weekend wraps things up for the year.

Next thing on our events calendar is SHOT Show. Which is even more disconcerting than this being Thanksgiving week. Stay tuned on Friday for our annual Black Friday sale thread. Though Black Friday seems to have been less exciting the past few years.

This is me, especially as I bounce back and forth between my 4 Knife News pieces each month.

I had another music selection ready to go, but Cmeat mentioned a particular Dead Milkmen song in one of his comments. It happens to be one of my favorites.

 

I had never seen the video. Kickass. I can still recite every word.

Rosecraft posted that meme to their socials this week. Seems like the perfect segue to giving away a Rosecraft Blades knife.

3 knives are off the board, 3 remain. Del gets the next pick.

None of the 3 are assisted open, so I think any of the 3 are Loony Approved. The blue Awanata is a slipjoint and almost certain to clear customs quickly.Please let me know.

On a more serious note…

I am still gobsmacked that Jewish students at “elite” universities like Harvard and Cornell are being assaulted and intimidated by mobs of people screaming for their extermination. There have always been antisemetic idiots in this world, but in most cases they could be shamed into slinking away. Something has shifted, and the masks are off.

The rot is so pervasive that a leading trend on TikTok this week was videos endorsing “Bin Laden’s Letter to America”. Scores of young people posted videos talking about how he was right to attack the United States because reasons. Not something I had on my bingo card. More here. People supporting Hamas need to ask themselves if  “(They) are the Baddies?”

Of course, the Weekend Open Thread is a humor post, and as always there are nuggets to be mined, even in the worst of circumstances.

The pulse oximeter on the nose is a nice touch. (The Gaza Health account is a parody). Just a reminder that Hamas are terrorists and lie as a matter of policy. And major media outlets lap it up like the quislings that they are.

“Eretz Nehederet” (“A Wonderful Country) is an Israeli satirical television show, often likened to Saturday Night Live in the States. However, unlike SNL, it has actually been funny in the past decade.

 Time for Israel to deploy the “Jewish Space Lasers”

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Israel, and especially the brave soldiers who are having to dig the Hamas militants literally from out of the ground.

  2. I bought a “Leatherman Free T2” at a pawn shop yesterday. It was “gunked” up from something causing the tools to stick together, Yuk!. Spots of corrosion on the 420HC tools. Knife blade had factory edge. Just need a cleaning . . . Process: Soaked in hot, soapy water. Wiped and blew dry with Wagner heat gun. “0000” steel wool and 3-in-1 oil on the “spots”. Oh baby, it looked good! What are those tiny “hairs” . . . steel wool particles.

    Note: “Leatherman Free” products have embedded rare earth magnets. Duh.

    It was a pain in the ass to remove these steel wool bits. I used a toothbrush, a brass brush and a rare-earth magnet. I am okay with the results. The “peddler bag” gets it.

  3. I have no ass. It fell off laughing at the “egg-eating snake” and the “tur-octo-crab”.

    Saturday the 18th was the monthly meeting at the “Moran Forge & Academy” in Middletown, MD. Jay Hendrickson, MS/ABS, presented a revealing history of how the “Bill Moran Museum & Foundation” was established after Bill’s death in February 2006. “Part 2” of Jay’s presentation was focused on heat-treating of hi-carbon steels, e.g. 1095; and, alloy steels such as “W2” and others. There was rousing audience participation on discussing “grain size” quenching, checking hardness using a file, etc. etc. I really enjoy the workshops that veteran blade smiths like Jay hold for us. There is a whole lot of science in the forging of steel; and, there is the art of forging a blade acquired through experience.

    I sold ACE knife cases to folks at the meeting; and, later I sold the last of them to Sean Norris, owner of “Edgeworks” in downtown Frederick. Next time I order cases from ACE, I will get the 10 inch and 13 inch ones. It is evident to me that makers are making smaller knives i.e. OALs of 6-10 inches. I had 16,18 and 21-inchers leftover from the “Moran Show”. I think that “Sean” will put chef’s knives in these larger cases.

    It would not be a complete day for me if I did not buy a knife at “Edgeworks”. The custom knife display was chock full of wonderful creations. Many of the knives were made by members of the “Moran Foundation” . . . Sean is a strong supporter of our organization and a “Lifetime” member like me. Smack dab in the center of the display was a “Nuckels”!! An antler-handled, cocobolo guard, “file” knife that measures about 5.5 in. tip-to-butt. How sweet it looked nestled among the bowies, fighters and utilities. I bought it.

    I will send Clay some photos of my “Nuckels” antler/file knives.

  4. Del, congrats on the new blade. Hope it sails through customs without issue. I love Thanksgiving’s Day. Family, friends, food, and lots of laughter. And pie. My wife makes a fabulous pecan pie.
    The one and only time my wife’s older sister shot a rifle, she held it exactly as demonstrated in the meme.
    I find medieval rabbits both fascinating and oddly disturbing.
    And Vince Vance and the Valiants’ version of All I want for Christmas is You is so much better!

      I have a nice reminder of my experience with that scope, the scar stayed. While I threw the cheap scope under the bus it was a rookie mistake. At the same time I only bought Leupold scopes after that!

    Thanksgiving is really celebrated here too, just no NFL football, and in Hawaii we noticed a real passion for getting out and celebrating.

    Our friends invited us for a huge dinner, this friend is a veteran, he was part of a Thanksgiving parade that was amazing. Fireworks at night.

    If you have been to Hawaii, everything seems better there!

    1. 20+ years back when I first came to the US I used to cook up a big turkey and ask along any one from the office who didn’t have family in town and we’d really get into the spirit of it all, it was wonderful.

    Another great batch for some nice Friday evening laughs. Speaking of laughs, ever time the Ferris movie comes on is another hilarious night of laughter at our house!

    Don’t know much about FB or Twitter, but Instagram really seems to be hamstringing the knife and knifemaking sites. They are blocking everyone except your regular followers from seeing posts.

    “When you know nothing about physics”, that shiner only happens once. Eye Relief was a term I quickly learned when I was around 17 years old. Bought a cheap scope for a sporty 303 calibre British rifle. The warm blood was rolling down my face before I even figured out what hit me!

    Looking forward to the new blade! Those bunnies for the win!
    U.S. Thanksgiving is the best!. Got to enjoy a few great ones in Kona. Warm weather overlooking the ocean in outdoor bars watching football. Parades and celebrations everywhere, better than Christmas, almost! Have a great weekend everone!

    1. Del – congrats on the draw, there’s nothing like that new knife smell. Agree on Thanksgiving; I didn’t grow up with it, but it is the holiday that outshines all others here, based on the radical idea of being thankful for all we truly have in life and mostly uncommercialized. Is Canadian Thanksgiving much different, other than being celebrated on a different day?
      CMEAT + Clay – OMG the Dead Milkman tune is insane! I cant think why, but “Stuart” really spoke to me, my new favorite tune. Cheers.
