Weekend Open Thread: Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly Edition

Greetings and Salutations fellow People of the Knife…

I want to be clear, while Space-X experienced a non-nominal event yesterday, I am not trying to imply that yesterday’s launch was a failure. Space-X has long had a design philosophy which favors rapid development and testing, and most importantly, willingness to end a flight with an Earth-shattering Kaboom.

It really was a success. (interesting article here):

But this was not that. For those who know a bit more about the launch industry and the iterative design methodology, getting the Super Heavy rocket and Starship upper stage off the launch pad was a huge success.

Why? Because one could sit in meetings for ages and discuss everything that could go wrong with a rocket like this, with an unprecedented number of first stage engines and its colossal size. The alternative is simply to get the rocket into a “good enough” configuration and go fly. Flying is the ultimate test, providing the best data. There is no more worrying about theoretical failures. The company’s engineers actually get to identify what is wrong and then go and fix it. But you have to accept some failure.

That doesn’t mean the memes aren’t funny.

Was/Were

Are y’all going to complain to Mark about that one?

I was told there would be no math.

Drawing Board, Events Calendar, same thing….

As always, ignore dates from prior years if displayed. Glitch in the preview.

Wolverine Knife Collectors Club Michigan Show

James Black’s Bowie Heritage Festival

Mark is in Arkansas at the James Black Festival. I have lacrosse to coach.

Next weekend is the Solvang Custom Knife Show, which Jim Sornberger wrote about in the October 2022 issue of KNIFE Magazine.

Solvang Custom Knife Show

And the NCCA show in Connecticut.

NCCA Extravaganza Knife Show

Onward…

I know, we aren’t supposed to be political here. But that one is too funny, and in the vein of Johnny Carson and the other greats, who managed to make fun of both sides, and no one was offended.

The 80s were a great time to grow up.

I know that show was set in the 1960s, but it aired in the 80s, and was a part of my childhood. As was living a more “Free Range” childhood.’

I will take the 80s movies and the 60s music.

Kids don’t even ride bicycles anymore…

But it isn’t all bad.

Might as well make the best of it.

Nothing helps take your mind off your troubles like winning a knife.

This week’s drawing is for a Browning Auric assisted flipper. Cmeat wins this one. I am curious as to his thoughts. I think it is robust enough for him to actually use.

Next week we are going away from Browning for a bit and finishing up a our pile of B’yondEDC knives. In this case, the Kleever. It is an interesting knife. Large enough to actually function in its namesake style , yet small enough to carry if one wished. A kydex belt sheath is included.

Usual rules apply – 5 comments or replies on this post are your entries, and if you are new to the blog, your comments will be held in moderation until I can approve the first ones. After that you are good to go.

So comment away, the winner just needs to promise to let us know what you think of the Kleever. It is an interesting knife.

And now for the rest of the memes. Brace yourselves, there are some doozies.

It’s a trap!

I may have shared that one before, but it is relevant. And evergreen.

I promise mot to have nothing but fat jokes.

Some will be ugly jokes. Because I am looking out for you.

So sad.

“Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth?”

Better yet, just _pretend_ to be useless. Like a British chef.

Speaking of Britain…

All hail your new sovereign!

Don’t shoot the messenger.

Or I might call the Ploice.

I would laugh at Willem Dafoe no matter what the caption.

Shifting gears without a clutch…

Wake up sheeple!

Parenting win.

Engineering fail.

That one is so true as to be sad and not funny.

This too…

Extremely rare. Still mooing in fact.

Be ungovernable.

Never mind me.

3-2-1 Go!

‘Welcome to Flavortown, Clown.

This would imply I had friends…

I just stay home and gather memes for your weekend enjoyment.

It is the Code of the Memelords.

Have a good weekend everyone.
