Weekend Open Thread: Sub-Optimal Strategy Edition

    By H. Clay Aalders January 23, 2021

Howdy folks.  That above is perhaps the funniest thing I have read in weeks. Sounds like a good plan. I will let someone else try it.

How is everyone doing? This should have been SHOT week, and while it has been nice sleeping in my own bed, SHOT (and Blade) both are great immersion experiences which inspire future writings long after the shows have ended. This year is just a grind trying to corral Press Kits from every manufacturer remotely. I have been doing as thorough of a job as I can, but it is not a substitute for having the knives in your hands while discussing them. And that isn’t even to mention not seeing friends whom you have counted on seeing twice a year.

Whelp…we’ve got that going for us. But it is like a bad movie.

Truthfully, SHOT was the last time life seemed normal. Covid was just a faint rumbling the last week in January. There is considerable evidence that it was in circulation at the show. I have spoken with people who lost their sense of taste and smell right after the show, before it was ever mentioned as a symptom in the news. I am pretty sure I have told the story before. But it has been a long year.

I have been waffling back and forth about wading into the Bernie memes from this week. I am not in the mood to laugh about politics right now, but Jiminy Christmas, it is a fertile vein to mine. Here are some of my favorites.

And for those of you who are Dungeons and Dragons fans…

Congrats to Steve T. You are the winner of the CRKT M40. This week’s prize is a little different, a Kleen Kanteen vacuum cup, courtesy of Work Sharp. Last week they sent me their WS3000 Wood Tool Sharpener. This week it was a pair of their new Work Sharp Knife and Tool Sharpener Mk. 2. I will be doing a full write up on both soon.

All the usual rules apply. Steve sits this one out for prize eligibility. For everyone else, 5 comments or replies count as entries, and if you are new to the blog, your first comment will be held in moderation until I approve it. After that, provided you have cookies on, your comments will post automatically.

Have a great weekend everyone. I’m up early for a very cold lacrosse practice.

‘phase’ should read ‘phrase’ – when is that “edit” button coming out?
