I know, that is a terrible meme, but man did it make me laugh. Far and away my favorite that I found this week. So I figured I would make this week a T-Rex theme because it is better than ruminating too much on anything in the news.

How is everyone doing? If you followed the blog or our social media this week, you know my trip to South Carolina was the most noteworthy happening. It was good to see Dogwood Dan. I actually drove to his place in Greenville, rode with him to Columbia, and crashed in the guest room before driving home Wednesday.

I had always heard that factoid as “Closer to an iPhone than a Stegosaurus” but close enough.

Heh.

Of course it isn’t just T-Rexes you need to watch out for.

They also have trouble reaching the trigger on a long gun.

I had a great time at the Spirit of the Steel show in Pigeon Forge last weekend. Saturday I was on my own, but got to go back Sunday with my daughter who went a little overboard adding to her cowboy Novelty Knife collection.

It is a tough time of the year for everybody, I blame last week’s time change.

 

 

Last week was good for David McCarty. He wins his choice of the two Gerber knives, the Fuse (Green) and the Zilch (Red). Next week winner gets the last one left.

  1. Great meme haul this week Clay!
    I am just back from a trip up through Arizona, we made the mistake of going into Sedona on Saturday which was a freakin’ zoo – so many people in their ‘over-landing’ gear!!!! Yikes, I suppose its a knock on from covid as we all get to staycation in here at home. Still, great scenery, from Mojave desert, the Colorado and up through to the forests around Flagstaff. I took along the new Brisa Necker 70, nice little blade for camp stuff.

      gave the interpretive center three dollars for a placard and a map. little dead end dirt road where an oak creek canyon trailhead was located. turned out to be a good move, a pleasant stroll.
      el encanto up in cave creek is good eats. and the ol’ lady can’t stay out of the rock store across the road.

      1. CMEAT – yeah, nice place, we had the best guide from the NPS volunteers at the Palatki heritage site, really brought the subject alive, and thrilled you with the idea of how people lived back then, pre-Meta!

  2. CMEAT, “You just uplifted my morning!”. I am headed to Wolfsville to the “Hays Apiary” to get a couple of 5 lb. jars of honey. $20 a jar. Gotta have my honey and eat it, too. On the knife front, I am about to receive my newest Steve Nuckels (“Potomac Forge”) knife. You can view Steve’s work on Instagram. Enjoying the knife life!!

  3. Up in Garrett County, MD, almost to WVA, “Negro” Mountain is still there. The locals are okay with calling it that. The do-gooders east of Washington County, i.e. politicians and such folks who meddle in other folks lives, seem to think that changing something’s name makes an impact on somebody’s way of thinking. I do not believe that to be true. In Allegheny County, almost to Garrett County, there is “Polish” Mountain. Nobody has suggested changing its name. Maybe, the do-gooders pronounce it as “polish” as in “polish your shoes”.

    “Fangboner” is a great knife name!

      i think we’ll have to dredge up some beavis for the other part. actually it was butthead who said, while watching a u2 video, ” when bono’s dad would attend his son’s talent shows at grade school, he would brag, ‘that’s my boner.'”

      other random utterings from the two lads, “depeche mode. that’s french for ‘we suck.'”

  4. my neighborhood has “deaf children drive carefully” signage; i have no idea which kids it refers to, and the original youngsters must be in their fifties by now.
    driving along the rock river near dixon we always enjoyed the “falling rocks” sign- the locals had markered “in love” between the words.
    apropo of nothing but signage, the road to cedar point always had the highlight of spotting “fangboner rd.” we all giggle each time we spot it. i note that the alleghenies have dropped the moniker of “negro mountain” from one of their passes a few years back. you can search it up, but the origins of the title are lost.
    my kid gifted the “t- rex trying” picture book to wifey. she cherishes it.

    1. Barney was filmed about 5 minutes up the road from here. He made a number of appearances locally in the early days. Schools, ribbon cuttings, birthday parties…almost anywhere 2 or more were gathered! Then he became big time and those appearances pretty much stopped. I always wondered who sits around thinking “I know, let’s creat a kids’ tv When my dad retired, my folks moved from Houston to a community that was just outside Crossville, TN. First time we drove to see them, I saw a couple of barns with “See Rock City” painted on them. show and the star will be a dinosaur! A T-Rex. Only purple and likable!

  5. “Red Squirrels Drive Slowly” is a hoot. Reminds me of the sign for the missing Native American, “Falling Rocks”. On the red and yellow symbolism for hunger, the People’s Republic of China (aka Red China) flag established in 1949 by the Communists speaks to the repression of the Chinese people. Supposedly, the red background signifies communism and the five yellow stars indicate the aggressive expansion of the totalitarian regime. If only we could turn back the hands of time! Chaing Kai-shek wins over Mao; North Korea does not get Red China’s support; Who knows about Vietnam? (The Soviets might not have aided “Ho”).

    Back to the memes, Shelley Duvall impressed in the “Shining”. I loved her as Olive Oyl, “Popeye” 1980.

    Regarding the “T-Rex”, . . . I am amazed that this creature was in the Almighty’s mind. Did “He/She/ET” have a brain fart and forget about the arms? Additionally, how did the toymakers think to make “Barney” a lovable purple dinosaur? C’mon, the beast was a carnivore . . . And, there was Blue Oyster Cult in 1977, “Godzilla” on the “Spectre” album. Equal to the “Reaper”.

  6. Coffee spewed everywhere when I saw the first meme! And the T-Rex unicycle thought me something! What’s a few million years among friends!
    And I’m with you on daylights savings. Pick one. Forward or back I care not which, but pick ONE.I’ve reached an age where turning clocks forward or backwards messes me up for a couple weeks. Just pick one, then stop messing with my clock..And stay off my yard…
