Founded in Dubuque, Iowa, A. Tredway and William Andrew conducted the business as Andrew & Tredway. They continued under this name until 1873 when they took their sons into the business. The name was then changed to Andrew, Tredway & Sons.
In 1889, Mr. Andrew retired and the business continued and was incorporated by the Tredways under the name A. Tredway & Sons Hardware Company. In 1929, they merged with another company and became the Kretschmer-Tredway Company.
