This hardware was established in 1809 in Troy, New York by Hart & Nazro at 6 Lane’s Row, between State and Broadway on the East side of River Street. In the great fire of January 20, 1820, they lost nearly all the contents of the store. After the fire, they occupied the store at 3 Lane’s Row nearly opposite the store of Esaias Warren & Company.
In 1821, they became Hart & Pitcher. Jacob Hart and Samuel Pitcher were the owners. On Oct. 24, 1824, Moses Craft, Isaac B. Hart and Samuel Pitcher formed Craft, Hart & Pitcher. Craft withdrew in 1830, and they became Hart & Pitcher until 1831 when John N. Card became a member.
The firm was then known as Hart, Pitcher & Card. In 1832, Hart and Card took over the business. From 1834 to 1836, the business was conducted by Isaac B. Hart, until they became Hart, Lesley & Warren. Isaac B. Hart, George Lesley and W.H. Warren were the owners.
On March 1, 1840, Joseph M. Warren was admitted to the firm, and the name became Warrens, Hart & Lesley. On February 1, 1855 Joseph M. Warren and C.W. Tillinghast formed the firm of J.M. Warren & Company.
This hardware changed names many times over the years. The business stayed open until about 1965.
