This import agency was located at 9-15 Murray Street, New York City. “Western Cutlery Company” was the main trademark used. Charles F. Wiebusch was president for many years. He was replaced by Walter M. Taussig about 1905. Taussig was also president of the Challenge Cutlery Corporation of Bridgeport, Connecticut at the same time.
The manufacturing plant in Bridgeport had been in operation since 1898 when Wiebusch & Hilger purchased the Hatch Cutlery Company. In 1905, they took over the operation of C.B. Barker & Company of New York City. They used the old Barker trademarks for several years.
By 1909, they were located at 106-110 Lafayette Street, and were using the trademark “Lafayette Cutlery Co.” on knives imported from Germany. They went out of business about 1928.
