GearPatrol: A Beloved Budget-Friendly Brand Drops an Affordable, Impressively Equipped EDC Utility Knife

My appreciation for Knafs is no big secret. From the brand’s endeavor to create the “ultimate starter knife” to how it transformed its most popular knife into a super-small keychain folder, Knafs just hits a unique sweet spot in the EDC world.

Now, that trend continues with the Knafs Yuti, a project that sees the brand’s familiar design language pared into its first-ever utility knife.

Those who know Knafs well should find some familiar ground in the Yuti. While it doesn’t share the same naming convention, it’s undoubtedly inspired by the brand’s fan-favorite Lander — ultimately, the basis for the brand’s entire catalog.

I too am an admirer of Ben’s. I look forward to playing with this one.

    1. At the earliest opportunity, Ben OEM’ed a knife through White River.

      Market realities are what they are. This is trying to replace a $12 Stanley.

      Sure Gavin Hawk made one that cost >$400. But was kind of a lark. Too many of his regular customers never used his knives. He wanted one that they would.

      1. “Why replace a $12 Stanley?” Of course, “Stanley & Co.” went to off-shore production decades ago . . . Re “Hawk”, this family business caters to the tactical users. I have not met, yet, a person carrying a “Hawk” on an everyday basis.
        I recently bought a “Spyderco Native FRN” with a serrated spearpoint blade at a local pawn shop. Why? Mostly, for my friend, Scott. I was a bit intrigued by this “Native”, too. The spearpoint blade is unusual for a “Native”, e.g. the “Native 5”, and, the knife has the “David Boye” detent which is a superb locking design. The knife was in excellent mechanical condition; however, it required a thorough cleaning . . . “Scott” is my go-to auto mechanic. He has carried a “Spyderco 1st Generation C35Q” since the 1990’s. His daughter gifted it to him. It is in “VG-Exc” condition EXCEPT the edge is cracked. The “Native FRN” will replace his keepsake knife. I am sending Sal Glesser (“Spyderco”) a photo of the “C35Q” in the hope that the edge can be repaired or a “long-shot” blade replacement. Scott pocketed the “Native”. I know he will use it.
