Weekend Open Thread: Themed memes take a holiday

Howdy Folks and Happy Friday. This week’s Open Thread is going to be a bit disjointed and rushed, as I just got back from coaching a couple of lacrosse games and it is already late.
These pictures are actually from our game this past Tuesday where we beat our biggest rival. We have had a rebuilding season, with only 3 8th graders and 6 starters who had never played before last fall. We were huge underdogs, but the girls played their hearts out. The game ended 7-5 in our favor. My daughter is our goalie and had her best night ever.
I am an extremely proud dad and coach.
But you came for the memes…
Not too many topical memes this week. Other than 4/20 of course.
But that is enough of that. Not really appropriate for this site.
This is topical. And very good news.
Also topical are three shows/gatherings from our Events Calendar.
Western Canada Knife Association Show (within KTSA Gun & Knife Show)
Mark is at the James Black Festival if I am not mistaken.
You can never be too careful.
That includes our motorcyclist friends Del and Cmeat.
Stylin’.
Pay attention. There will be a quiz on this…
With no good segue into our weekly drawing, I will jump right in.
In case you missed it. We are giving away a Dicerox Lagertha to the first person to be drawn twice. I just did the drawing and Stuart B. is our winner.
So I guess our next drawing will be for the Kalina, the smaller of the two knives.
Usual rules apply…
Up to 5 comments or replies on this post are your entries. If you are drawn once you become a “token holder”. Then a second draw wins the knife.
If you are new to the blog you comments will be held in moderation until I can approve them. After I do, your comments will post at will.
Good luck all.
Ugh. I’m at least a tiny bit sorry.
Not sorry for Rickrolling you though.
No matter what, there are always Star Wars memes.
They look like they are back from a fun day of paintball.
There are a few more unrelated memes to play you out…
You mean there is a difference?
Age and cunning ftw.
Accurate.
It is the thought that counts.
Mmm…woody.
The ones who would be offended have no idea.
The government is willing to look the other way for a price.
I should keep my mouth shut.
And probably wrap this up for that matter. The puns are getting terrible.
I’m out as well. Have a great Weekend everyone.

Those helmets cracked us up Clay, just heading to the Kamloops show on my MC. Would were that for sure, they won’t even let us wear the beanies anymore. I ran from a Cop when the rules changed, was not into changing. Made eye contact with an Officer as I went through an intersection, punched the Harley, ditched into a McDonalds parking lot and frantically took my helmet off, was reaching into my saddlebag for the legal DOT helmet just as pulled beside me, with a grin a mile wide. Got a fine, Police were everywhere that weekend, huge MC show with lots of clubs attending. Have a great weekend everyone!

The T-Rex wins out, and apparently so did I! Wow – that Lagertha is quite a knife, though I’m not quite sure where it fits in terms of use, but its always a great day to get a new knife, I’m feeling very dokidoki.
Mark
Glad to see the karma come full circle!
davidmccarty
Congratulations, looks like a cool knife.
Jason K
Atta boy, getting that good karma in spades. Perhaps you shouldn’t look at the Lagertha as big, heavy knife, but as an UL camp axe.
StuartB
Jason – too funny. I have to admit that when I read Clay’s review I was left wondering a bit the design and its purpose, especially withe grind on it, I suspect having it in hand will reveal more.
cmeat
dot, ansi, snell. one year in daytona we split the helmet up. one wore the eps foam innard while the other wore the shell. no second looks.
coming back up from the keys i rode lidless from north beach to downtown miami to return a rental. he saw me, pulled a fast uturn on a1a but i lost him. imagine bringing leather saddlebags full of tools as carry on luggage. it was the day after hurricane andrew came through. rode over downed sparking power lines (feet up!); waived through all the full auto checkpoints… how much loot ya gonna grab on a bikey?
we were just admiring those baldy helmets yesterday. put a hat on it.
Del Corsi
CMEAT, There must have been some tingling going on with all those power lines, not to mention the turbulence after the hurricane. Lidless is the way to Roll! We go down through Idaho into Montana, then back through Idaho and Washington hitting the border at Orville, before I even see the Idaho sign my wife has her helmet off, they both stay off until we hit Washington on the return. Idaho & Montana let you run 80MPH, so you just know 90 is permitted for non-residents who have metric speedo! When we see the first speed sign my always sees my smile in the mirror and says, “Your People.” Our highway speeds are mostly 60MPH, except the Coquihalla Hwy where the speed 72MPH in spots. If you get caught doing 30 klicks over the limit they immediately seize your vehicle, keep it for 10 days or so, then load you up with fines for several years, need more power!

Next month will be the 25th anniversary of my kidney transplant. Motorcycles are third on a long list of activities my doctors told me to avoid post transplant (bungie jumping was first followed by parachuting). But were i to find myself motoring down the highway on 2 wheels, the baldy helmet would be a must have item!
My neighborhood is having a mega-garage sale today. I was up early hoping to have Hocky’s luck. It was not to be. Not a knife of any kind to be found for sale! (30+ households participating). Heading out to the nursery-my lovely wife wants me to plant “just a few more flowers” out front. Have a great weekend!
Del Corsi
Awesome Mark, so happy to know your 25th anniversary is soon! That baldy helmet kind of steals the thunder from all the memes, lost my mind after seeing that one, have to go back and check the rest of them out. I never saw any real treasures for factory knives at our WCKA show today, but then I didn’t get too far with all the visiting, first show here in two years, So great to connect in person! Never enough flowers out front, or knives in the display case, key to a great weekend! 🙂
Mark R
Nothing like catching up with friends in person! And after icing the lower back last night I’m ready for the next flat or 2!
Del Corsi
I hear you Mark, I lean towards the Ice and Agave! 🙂
cmeat
try la gritona, owned and operated by gals. nice hand blown recycled glass baba, good cactus juice.
Del Corsi
Will check it out. Penca Azul, limited edition 2005, bought in Phoenix, hand blown Agave plant inside, still unopened, bought two, the other bottle went fast. Sipping stock for sure. Have some amazing empty bottles with hand blown cactus and other cool features. Hate to throw the bottles out! I sharpen the locals knives for free, they always want to drop some cool ones off, say I mainly drink the Agave, you can’t believe how many bottles I have at times!
Del Corsi
Congrats to Stuart B on the Dicerox Lagertha, can’t wait to hear your review. I haven’t used or tested the AD15 yet, however I absolutely love the weight of it in my pocket, you always know it’s there. The Spyderco Salt I usually carry in my pocket is so light I have to keep checking to make sure it’s there!
davidmccarty
I really liked the schools/real world meme.
Hocky
Reassuring all my “WOT” peers that “Hocky” is still vertical. The “Mason-Dixon Knife Club (MDKC)” show on April 22 & 23 was pretty decent with a good crowd on Friday afternoon and again on Saturday morning. I sold enough knives to pay for my table ($60) and a bit more to shop around the other tableholders. The table across from me, manned by a giant named “Stretch”, had three Aubrey G. Barnes (aka “Barney) knives ($1200, $900 and unknown); a Jay Hendrickson ($ unk) ; a Harvey Dean ($1500) and a D’Alton Holder for ($400) plus some others. I contained myself . . . Another tableholder had three “Barney’s); but, Not For Sale. I sent a photo of this trio to Clay. I also gave the dealer my “calling card” in case he changed his mind!! I met quite a few folks of all genders and ages. I heavily promoted the “Bill Moran Foundation” and our new school of knifemaking coming this summer. Saturday afternoon was “dead” . . . One tableholder put a sign on his table: $2000 for entire table. A member of the “MDKC” bought it . . . I managed a good deal on a “Bark River PSK” with a stag handle. Near the end of the show, a knife peddler and I forged a deal on a TOPS “BOB” Fieldcraft, U-4880 (Code for: Made in 2015, number 4880). That was for JasonK who swapped his “Astor” for my “BOB”, U-???? (U=2015 . . . a good year for “BOB”s). This “BOB” had an aftermarket leather sheath with a Coughlan’s flint rod. Del brought me “up to snuff” on Coughlans in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Steve Nuckels dropped by the show on Friday morning. He then headed to Fort Frederick for their 18th Annual Festival. This historic fort dates to the French & Indian War era. Steve goes there to find curly maple and other knife-making essentials like bone, antler, steel and feathers for his frontier-style knives.
That’s all from the “Hocky” for now. Oh, “Del” . . . I have a Spyderco Salt, LC200N in a “wharnie” . . . for my future saltwater excursion!
Del Corsi
Hey Hocky, cool times for sure, you have so much fun! I hope you like the “Salt”, mine has the serrations, just in something is pulling you off the paddleboard, the leash is always attached when on the Ocean. I have had a tiger very close to the board, he never bothered me, I never bothered him. I might have looked like Gilligan as I paddled back to shore! 🙂
StuartB
Del – love the ‘All Knives Matter’ quote, careful that your broad support for edged tool inclusiveness doesn’t get you in trouble with the extremist ‘Buck Knives Matter’ crowd
