GearPatrol: Kizer Morphs Its Original Crossbar EDC Knife Into a User-Friendly Utility Multi-Tool

Though incredibly useful, utility knives aren’t always the most enticing tools, least of all in the EDC world. Most are cheap, not particularly interestingly designed and not built in pocket-friendly formats.

Kizer’s Drop Bear Utility Multi-Tool aims to change that. This EDC tool transforms the utility mainstay into a more carry-friendly offering and improves its multifunctionality and user-friendliness.

I think multitool is a stretch. They added tweezers and a toothpick.  But the Kizer one-ups the Civivi Elementum Utility… That one requires a tool to change the blade.

As far as the Drop Bear handle? I have a Drop Bear and I like it. It is a bit of a tank, but has a good fidget factor.

  2. Fidgeting with a utility knife caused 22 year old me a nasty cut and a trip to the ER for some stitches. I’m thinking “fidget factor” with a razor blade is just a bad idea rather than a selling point.

    1. joe rogan could host fidget factor, the show where people futzing with their knives end up going to the er. my favorite segment is bali song fridays, with avocado hand wednesday and oyster shucking monday close seconds.

      1. My father taught me how to deal with avocados. They’ve never been an issue. Don’t care for oysters. Had a buddy who tried to teach me the ins and outs of showing off with a butterfly. He had a trainer. After 30 minutes of flipping and flopping I stopped when I grabbed the blade. Had it been sharp it would have been bad. The realization that the risk was always there was enough.That was the last time I played with one.
        The ratings would be huge. Maybe chainsaw juggling during sweeps week.

        1. i’ve the basic open/ close move down; a cheap clone trainer was essential. my boy can roll one over his index finger, no idea when he learned that. the girl absconded with both the trainer and the bradley kimura (which is a great value and has a doesn’t suck blade pattern) that she fidgets with when she’s anxious.

        2. Other than a fixed blade which has zero moving parts (Exception: Sheathing the knife!); my “Nobu Yamamoto”** gravity knife is a one-handed flipper of pure simplicity! (** “Nobu” is a master Japanese knifemaker. I met him at the “Blade Show – 2015” where I bought three of his knives including the “Gravity”)

  3. no comment on folding utility knives. i dont even like the retractable ones. fixed irwin for me, thanks.
    drop bear: a viscious murderous carnivore related distantly to the eucalyptus consuming koala. known for surprise overhead attacks. universally feared among school children and visiting moms. no effective known defense has ever been presented. may have been spotted as invasive species in everglades. often seen working in conjunction with the argentinian tegu in ambushing python hunters and air boat operators. refuse to negotiate over tarrifs. may have to employ holy hand grenade of antioch.
