“Trade AAA1 Mark” is stamped out on the blade. This was an import company in St. Louis, Missouri. Andrew J. Jordan was the founder. Much of the firm’s business was done with the Indian tribes, mainly the Gros Ventre, Blood, Blackfeet, and River Crow tribes. The cutlery was made both in England and Germany. The trademark “AAA1” was first used about 1886. In 1885, he opened a cutlery factory in Sheffield, England-the East Inda Works.
In 1911, Mr. Jordan’s son Clay acquired the Platts Brothers Cutlery Company in Andover, N.Y. He renamed the firm Clay Cutlery Company, and A.J. Jordan acted as the selling agent for the knives. Jordan used the following trademarks.
