Founded about 1836, they became a part of Wostenholm Ltd. about 1955. In 1953, they were on Portobello Street, Sheffield. This marking, along with the flag trademark is still in use.
Some of the older markings include: “Johnson Western Works,” “Flag Knife” (stamped out on blade), and “Hand Forged,” usually on the back of the tang. This company manufactured “Bowie” type knives, among other kinds of cutlery.
