This hardware was founded in 1844 by James F. Carlin. Worth Hulfish joined the firm in 1863 as a boy of 15 years of age. In 1895, Hulfish became a partner, known then as Jas. F. Carlin & Son Company. From 1895 to 1906, they were Jas. F. Carlin & Company.
In 1906, they became Carlin-Hulfish Company. Eventually, Hulfish bought out all of the Carlin family interest, and in 1919 it became Worth Hulfish & Sons Inc. This company was in business until 1963/64, when the city purchased the site to be used for a City Hall Plaza.
