Isaac P. Hyde and Franklin Jacobs founded the Hyde and Jacobs Company in Southbridge, Massachusetts in 1875. They made knives, shoe tools and other cutlery items.
I.P. Hyde was president, F.L. Chapin treasurer, and F. Jacobs clerk. The company was incorporated in 1881 as the Hyde Manufacturing Company.
In 1894, Hyde sold his interest in the firm to Joseph LaCroix and Myron Clemence. These two men ran the firm for many years. They have dealt mainly in working-type knives throughout the years.
