J.M. SCHMID & SON PROV. R.I.

John M. Schmid & Son was at 259 Westminister Street, Providence, Rhode Island. They were founded in 1857 by John M. Schmid. He died in 1871, and Albert J. Schmid succeeded him.

They dealt in domestic and imported cutlery, knives, scissors, and edge tools. Razors were concaved and honed, and pocket knives rebladed.

In 1910, they moved to 313 Westminister Street, and in 1918, to 121 Eddy Street. In 1923, they moved to 158 Pine, and in 1926, to 156 Westminister. They moved one more time, in 1945, to 137 Mathewson. They stayed at this address until 1964, the last year they were in business. This company manufactured “Bowie” type knives, among other kinds of cutlery.
