Civivi has a ton of design talent in their collaborator corral, but the new Guile folder is the first time that the company has teamed up with a TV and film star. Actor Shawn Ashmore makes his Civivi debut with this snazzy EDC folder.

You may know Ashmore from, well, all sorts of stuff. He’s been in X-Men movies, multiple video games, and is currently holding down a starring role in The Rookie, a crime procedural that has been running since 2018. He also now runs a fresh-faced company called Peace Neighbor, which is seeking to break into the general pocket tool market. The Guile itself is being manufactured by and released through Civivi, but its clean modern look fits right into the small but growing Peace Neighbor lineup.

Apparently he is in an X-Men movie.  I have never heard of him. I like the knife though.

  1. Being left handed, I appreciate the ambidextrous nature of blade holes. I still think most of them are ugly. Had they simply not punched through the blade on this one it would have an innovative, ambidextrous and eye catching nail nick that would also facilitate one handed opening. I’m sure the hipsters will appreciate the James Band influence of the handle. I’ve no doubt the spine will withstand any pressure my thumb may exert on it, but I just don’t care for it.
    I’m sure it’s a character flaw on my part!

    Truthfully, I like the handle shape, and the blade shape I bet they sell a ton of them.

  2. Clay, I like the knife. “Wharnies” are appearing more frequently as seen in the “NEWSFEED” recently, e.g. CRKT “Wong” design. Andy Armstrong are you reading this? “Hocky”

      1. MarkR: Can you imagine how many hours a designer put into the creation of this “GFS” (Giant Flying Saucer) hole? The Spyderco “circle” is the standard by which all other “holes” are measured, I reckon. Sal Glesser must have had a eureka moment back in the day . . . Back in the ’50s and ’60s the “nail nick” was omnipresent on slip-joints and I broke a fingernail often on a strong backspring! Thumb-studs and flipper tabs came into prominence. Opening a blade with these mechanics often depends on a user’s hand and finger size plus dexterity!
        My first year release “Ranger” (Buck 112) does not have a nail nick. It’s a “pinch the spine” to open it. Later versions added a nail nick. My great friend and accomplished knifemaker, Sid Barnhart, told me that he just can not understand a knife blade with a “hole” in it. Of course, he forges fixed blade knives!
        This was my Sunday morning “opening” remarks.
