Get in losers! We’re banning assault knives!


An actual tweet from an actual British politician. And not just any politician, this is Wales Secretary of State, Jo Stevens. She’s also a member of the UK Parliament.

Britain’s politicians are doing everything they can to prevent knife crime. Everything, that is, other than tossing people in jail, preventing more immigration, and doing literally anything that would protect Brits from being stabbed.

They’re instead making it somewhat more difficult to get knives on Amazon.

So, of course, this lady is being ratioed to the moon and back, and I’m here to share the best replies….

  1. I need to look at a global map whenever “Wales” is in the news. I believe I would have a difficult time communicating with the Welsh . . . theirs is a language that I picture used by elves and fairies, gnomes and dwarfs . . . however, their words have endearing charm, for instance: “Cwtch” and “Hwyl” . . . “cuddling and smiling ear to ear!”
    Is “bugger” a Welsh word?

    1. No, the B word seems more English, though well worn by our Welsh friends too. I lived in Cardiff (capital of Wales) for 3 years during my undergrad studies and wanted to learn the language, but ‘Byger’ is is tricky! It seems that England tests out unpopular new laws in the remoter parts of the Isles; the Scots were first with Pole Tax, the Welsh suffered 20MPH road restrictions, to name a few. I’m just happy to be in the New World!

      2. A “Pole” tax on the Scots? Seems odd . . . I am aware that Poland is southeastward of Scotland via Germany on an “as the crow flies” route . . . was it an immigration issue? I watched a movie about Welsh miners, “How Green Was My Valley” (1941) a few times over the decades of my life. On my final patrol on the USS George Bancroft SSBN643, I was told the boat took the “scenic route” between Wales and Ireland, past the Isle of Man and northward to Holy Loch, Scotland. I reckon NATO-nation submarines used friendly waters to navigate. The Russians sucked at detecting submarines no matter where they searched. Well, I went off track . . . I dated a classmate of Welsh heritage in high school, Brenda LLewelyn. Impressive marathon runner. Nice girl, blond and slim. I was too much the gog.

        1. Pole Tax has ancient roots as a house hold levy, but was made (in)famous by Thatcher in the 70’s as a fixed tax on each tax payer (pole – per head), set by the location. It was a regressive tax which favored the rich, deeply unpopular, and replaced by a Council tax in the 90s. No Poles were hurt in its implementation.

          1. A regressive tax favoring the rich is replaced by a “Council tax” . . . What or whom did the “Council” tax? . . . Does this involve Robin Hood?

          2. Council tax is in effect a Pole tax, but based on house value, so more progressive. No Robins were hurt in its implementation.
