Founded in 1978, Spyderco is a beloved knifemaking brand known for making unique, formidable designs. Even still, some of the brand’s offerings are more quirky than others.

One of the brand’s most unconventional knives has just been brought back from extinction in an exclusive limited run with Blade HQ. If you missed it the first few times around, this is your chance to get your hands on the highly uncommon, compact Spyderco Dodo EDC knife.

I am not familiar with the Dodo. Still a Native guy. Mark has one, and it makes an appearance around the office from time to time,

  1. I laughed at this. Oh, it is unique like its namesake extinct bird. Didn’t pigs wipe the dodo off the Earth? I reckon somebody will spend $200+ to buy this resurrected knife.

    1. Pigs and sailors if I recall 8th grade history. They were stupid, large, didn’t fly and were easily shot. Made them an excellent meat supply for sailors.
      The first time I saw this blade shape Spyderco had it as a fixed blade and marketed it as a self defense knife (Spot maybe?). Slashy not stabby. Thought it was oddly fascinating, but not particularly useful. Seems like an expensive box opener, but I aqree with you Hocky, someone will buy it.

      1. well. given extra munitions from gov’t expressly for the task of thinning the ranks of the emu, farmers were not able to. wonder why the dodo was so susceptible. hmmm.
        if i had this knife in hand i’d be looking for something to cut. “opening packages” (as you said, box cutter) indeed. nice to have on the table when your opening a bucket full of yellow perch from hoohah to gill.
        i’d like a spydie with this translucent g10, guaranteed to be sprint run with some groovy steel. i’ve grown to like k390; it’s surprising how different it is from m390… i’d like something in hap40 as well. but this cpm m4 is a very favorite, knocking the rust off my one friends manix2 be damned (and regrinding the snapped off tip from when he dropped it). pretty much the same ball bearing lock as well but with buttons.
        i just don’t want to ever have to try and sharpen it in this crazy recurve form. nope.

    2. Too funny Hocky, I love my Salt model and it is one of my favorite EDCs, right behind my Terry Roberts folder with Biggs Canyon jasper scales.

      The Dodo seems well named. almost 50 years for Spyderco, wow, first product of theirs I owned were the ceramic sharpening sticks.
