GearPatrol: Spyderco’s Most Unique and Affordable New EDC Knife Earns Its Stripes, Literally

As I mentioned in my recent piece on the Para Military 2 Lightweight Salt, Spyderco’s Product Reveal 22 also includes some noteworthy brand-new knives.

Among them, the most compelling and wallet-friendly EDC option is the Magpie, which the Colorado-based brand introduces into its Byrd family.

While its black-and-white scheme does reflect the crow-like bird’s coloring, the handle has a much closer parallel in the animal kingdom: the zebra.

I am in Montana this week, and actually have been seeing magpies. Not that has much to do with anything.

I am not going to knock Spyderco for their Byrd line. It is a price point thing. If they only made knives in Japan and the US, they would be abandoning an entire very sizable market population. The Byrd knives I have used have been quite high quality. I have a Meadowlark, and like it, even if I don’t carry it much.
