This firm evolved from Rice, Lathrop & Clary, in business since 1856. They were in West Winsted, Connecticut. Mr. Rice left the cutlery industry in 1862 when he retired. George F. Barton partnered with Lathrop in 1864, and they became Lathrop & Barton. They made a two-blade slot knife, and kitchen cutlery.
