“Carry One” sums up our philosophy at Olive Knives. Always have a knife, and make it one that can handle real-world tasks without an entourage of backups. It’s a simple concept that guides everything we do.
Let’s explore some reasons why we believe in this philosophy so strongly.
The knife industry thrives on specialization. Dedicated hunting knives, fishing knives, camping tools, and tactical blades. Specialization comes with trade-offs, however. You carry more weight than necessary, sacrifice valuable packing space, become unfamiliar with a single knife, and end up spending far more than planned. There is a better approach: one exceptional knife, carefully engineered for broad functionality. This does not mean a compromise that performs poorly, but rather a tool designed to handle diverse tasks exceptionally well.
This is a company blog post for Olive Knives. So take it with the appropriate seasoning. But in the same way that 5 from the Grinder gives us a glimpse of what makes a custom maker tick, this gives us a window into the company philosophy of an upstart knife company whom I would like to see succeed. They are a South Afrifcan/US partnership, which if successful could really help grow a knife industry on the African continent. I met my contact, Etienne, at SHOT Show and he is a really nice guy. I do find their proprietary “Fibonacci Grind” to be an interesting company hallmark. It really does seem to work. I wrote a review of their fixed blade Arbor, and am currently testing their folding Lenta model.
