Update: If you have completed this process already, and are trying to log in on another device or after logging out, you can click the “My Account” button at the top (or the hyperlink right here for that matter), or type knifemagazine.com/login in your browser bar (or again, click the link). We are going to add a more conspicuous button, but it isn’t here yet. Use this as a workaround. – HCA
The third installment of our “How to use the new KnifeMagazine.com” series deals with the first step in unlocking all our site has to offer.
First, you might be asking, “Why do I want to register with KnifeMagazine.com?” For existing print subscribers the answer is simple, because by registering you start your free trial online Premium subscription. You will unlock, for a period of time, all the features of the KnifeMagazine.com website. Most notably, this includes the complete archives of both our predecessor publication – the broadsheet Knife World (1975-2015) and our large format glossy Knife Magazine (2015-present) in digital format. At the end of the trial period, print subscribers will have the option of continuing their online Premium subscription for just $9.95/year.
“But wait, there’s more…”
Premium subscribers get access to the complete Goins’ Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings online, the entirety of our Knifemaker Database and Directory, our complete Digital Library containing dozens of knife books, historical catalogs and other cool stuff, and much more. I will walk you through the registration process in a moment.
Non-Print Subscribers can also purchase an online Premium Membership without the print magazine for $19.95/year by clicking this link.
Why would someone want to sign-up for a free registered account? Sure, much of the site is free, even without registering. You have access to our blog, our Neverending Newsfeed, the Knife Glossary, most of the Knifemaker Database, Event and Club calendars, large portions of our Digital Library, and much more.
A cynic would say that the most important reason is because we are giving away 100 knives in 100 days, beginning June 1, 2019. Many of these will require that you be a registered user. Sometimes it is going to be as simple as randomly drawing a name from our registered user list, but many will require you comment on a post. Sometimes it will be a “Question of the Day”, a “Caption this” contest, the first to comment on a specific “Easter Egg” post hidden within the Newsfeed, and others.
You want to win free knives don’t you?
As I said, the comments are a major reason to register, but there is another benefit as well. Seeded within the Newsfeed are advertisements, but we want them to be as unobtrusive as possible. When you are viewing the Newsfeed as an unregistered visitor, you will see an ad after every 5th entry or so on the feed. That backs off to one ad every seven posts for registered users. Of course, it jumps to one in ten for our Premium Members, so that is another benefit of upgrading.
Registering as an existing Print Subscriber:
Since I have almost certainly convinced you of the advantages of registering at KnifeMagazine.com, here is how you go about it.
First – click the “Register Existing Subscriber Account” Button at the upper right hand corner of the homepage. Or you can just click this link.
Print subscribers are going to need their subscriber ID number from their mailing label. Conveniently enough, many of you are reading this because you just received your June issue and it should be close at hand. If you have trouble locating it, email clay@ knifemagazine.com, or call us at 1-800-828-7751. We will be happy to give it to you.
(For demonstration purposes, I registered our friend Dogwood Dan Eastland of Dogwood Custom Knives. )
Registering as a Free Registered User:
If you look in the upper left hand corner of the homepage, you will see a “Create Account” button. Or you can just click here.
Enter the requested information, submit, check your email, and you are all set. In the future, you can login by clicking the “My Account” button .
That is all there is to it.
We hope you like the new KnifeMagazine.com and enjoy all the site has to offer. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any issues you might have with the registration process.
