Benchmade 940 Review

100 Knives in 100 Days Giveaway: Benchmade Osborne 940BK

When countless reviews refer to a knife as the “Perfect EDC” and “Best EDC Ever”, that is high praise indeed. The knife to which folks are referring is the subject of Day 32 of our 100 knives in 100 Days Giveaway.

I will get to my personal observations in a minute, but here is what Benchmade had to say about the 940 (and its close cousins)

They aren’t shy about highlighting the 940’s reputation, leading off both the video and product description page with a mention:

Highly regarded as one of the most quintessential EDCs of all time, the 940 and 943 are slim, stylish and after over a decade have performed in just about any situation imaginable.

Personal Observations:

Surprisingly, I have little experience with the Osborne. I have long regarded the Griptilian and Mini-Griptilian as my “Perfect EDCs”, or at least the knife that I recommend above all others for people who are new to carrying an EDC knife.

I have been remiss in giving the 940 a chance. I can definitely see what people are raving about.  At 2.9oz, the 940 is not truly “ultralight”,  it feels lighter in the hand than that. It has a relatively long handle, but its thinness helps it blend into one’s pocket until needed. That same long handle makes the knife comfortable to use, as it easily catches all 4 of my fingers.

The Axis lock is a tried and tested design, so there is trust that the knife while perform to expected limits. I personally trust it more than a liner lock on a small knife.

Finally, the green scales and purple spacer add a touch of fun and flair to this well constructed and highly functional EDC knife.

Outside Reviews:

The Osborne 940 is an extremely popular knife, and there are a ton of reviews out there. I am pleased that among them are two of my favorite review sites: BladeReviews.com, and MoreThanJustSurviving.com
