Knife collector and author Dominique Beaucant has released a limited edition (24 pieces) collector book on legendary Bladesmith and ABS co-Founder Bill Bagwell.

The long-awaited book on legendary bladesmith BILL BAGWELL is available since March 1, 2025, containing over 485 images, (most of them never-before-seen) 204 PP and text. Offered in a 9.3/8″ X 12.25″  hard cover format with laminated high gloss UV covers and same quality paper,. It is a tribute to this renowned bladesmith, as an historical and graphical account of his illustrious career, from High School to 2021.

  1. I’ve been collecting Bagwell knives for over for decades and I am delighted that a writer has finally put out a book about this legendary knifemaker. The book general appearance, layout, composition is professionally done. The hard cover bound work is presented in a high gloss laminated UV finish that makes for a very beautiful book. To surmise it is a high-end, high-quality coffee table art work. Without wanting to go into much details about it, as I feel that any potential buyer will find out, the very beginning denotes countless pictures of Bill while he was enrolled at North Caddo High School as an all-around football and baseball athlete, until graduation; there is even a photograph of Bagwell when he was in the 6th grade! in fact most of the shown images were never-before-seen as many were sent to the author by Bagwell himself. The color photographs depicting countless Bagwell’s creations are top-notch with extremely precise and detailed captions. There is even a photo of Bill and the author taken at the NYCKS in the early 90’s. Some reproduction of historical knives made by Bagwell are depicted as well as I wasn’t aware that they even existed. The book has 204 pages and offered in a large format ( 9″ X 12″ ). It is obvious that much research has been done in order to put this book together and I personally learn a lot while reading it. I did not that Bill was the producer of a Western movie; there is even a reproduction of the entire newspaper article from that era. I would like to point out that the book is a Special Limited Numbered Collector’s Edition of only 24 copies that had been printed; as there will be no reprint. The author is known to put out and release books about knifemakers in a low number as opposed to most which are printed in a much higher number-and for that reason the cost is high. The book is worth every penny I can assure you. If you are a “true” Bill Bagwell fan, aficionado and collector, this book is a must to have not only for the reasons I just explained, but for all knife fans. One shouldn’t hesitate to acquire a copy while they last as the price paid will end up being a wise investment. By the way I was one of the very first to place and “reserve” a copy which explains why I have book # 02/24. Guess who kept book # 01/24? Should I said who has it?. I am extremely pleased with my purchase and I feel you will be as well if you decide to purchase Mr. Beaucant’s last book as he indicated that this will be his absolute last book he is ever going to privately published.

  2. Having collected Bill Bagwell knives for over four decades, I am delighted that someone finally decide to write a book about the late Bill Bagwell. I was one of the first person to place an order for Mr. Beaucant’s book and I only have wonderful things to say about what this renowned author has done. First, I have to recognize that it is a first-class book both in appearance, composition and the way it is presented. Knowing that only 24 copies were printed, I believe that this book will be a wise investment. I was not much concerned about its price, although most books written about knifemakers are always printed in a much more amount of copies as opposed to this particular book.The photographs are top-notch quality with extensive and very informative captions as countless photos were never-before-seen. It is obvious that the author has done a lot of research over many years in order to obtain all the unknown facts and informations about Bill Bagwell. THe beginning of the book denotes many pictures of Bill Bagwell when he was enrollled at the renowned North Caddo High School until graduation and as you keep on reading furhter more, countless and unknown facts about Bill Bagwell are shown and explained. The book is not only extremely informative but it as a great source of discoverung so many beautiful photographs of knives that I never knew exsisted! In all if you truly are a “real” collector of the late Bill Bagwell and a “real” aficionado this book is not only a must to have , but it is a book that shows you the tremendous respect, admiration the author has had since he first meet Bill Bagwell at the November 1981 New York Custom Knife Show; there is even a photo of the author with Bill Bagwel that was taken in the warly 1990’s when Bill attended this prestigious show. You couldn’t ask for a better book to having being done than the one by Mr. Beaucant. Get your copy while they last and again donot be too concerned by the price as the book is worth every penny!

  3. I have a relatively good knife collection, with a number of knives from well- known Bladesmiths, both past and present. Three of my knives I was fortunate to acquire, were made by Mr. Bagwell.

    I recently purchased the book “Bill Bagwell One of a Kind” authored by Dominique Beaucant, which will make a great addition to my knives by Mr. Bagwell.

    First let me say it is a GREAT book and a great tribute to Mr. Bagwell. The quality of material, historic information and great photos reflect the work & effort the author put into this tribute!

    Communication and tracking information provided was very good, the book was very well packaged for shipping, arrived quickly and just as described.

    I am happy with all aspects on the purchase of this book as an addition to my collection and would highly recommend!!!

While the price of Beaucant’s new book on Bill Bagwell is high compared to many maker-specific books that are published in higher numbers, he chose to greatly limit the number of books available, which always necessitates a higher price. With a total of 24 copies available, signed by the author to each respective buyer, one will certainly have a fairly unique publication.
    The book covers the variety of Bill’s talents, accomplishments, and interests, beyond his unique role in the knife world. From early sports highlights, his brief engagement with Hollywood, and a passion for blackpowder hunting, we learn of his role with the American Bladesmith Society, and the various publications he wrote for. The majority of the photos, many provided over the years by Bill himself, have not been previously published. I think it shows a great respect for Bill’s drive and passion for everything he pursued, and through photographs & description of materials & general reference to techniques, portrays well the range & quality of his knives, which is what most of us probably most want to see. Many of us might have enjoyed more focus on technical process, materials, etc., but attention is paid to aspects of his forging,
    and damascus, and this books goal is not be a how-to manual.
    Most of the story is told in
    well-captioned photos, period publications, and articles written by Bill himself. It illustrates not only the considerable role he played in accentuating the Bowie knife as a fighting tool, but also in efforts to perpetuate the appreciation of knives as an art form.
    Whether the book is worth the price is a subjective thing, dependent upon your particular interest and admiration for Bill Bagwell, but I think any personal library with some focus on significant American makers, or the Bowie knife phenomenon in particular, will be well served to include this book.
