Happy National Knife Day Folks.

It is slightly ironic that I have to announce that there is not going to be an Open Thread this weekend. Press Day is next Wednesday, and I am too far behind to spend 3-4 hours today getting it done.

I was planning on working on it during the day yesterday, as well as updating the newsfeed, but Thursday night had been our first lacrosse practice. It turns out that the nets which were being provided for us we not assembled yet.

So yesterday midday I was putting them together instead of working. Took a little over 2 hours. Then I had to go pick up the kids.

I figured I would have a chance to do the WOT  last night, but my wife came home with baseball tickets, and I went to the ballgame with my family. I got home at 11pm, and by the time I would have been able to work, it was close to midnight.

Something had to give, so I am going to punt on the WOT. But please keep the conversation going on lasts week’s post.

    1. Del: Clay is the “Digital Editor”. I really do not know what this job title means. Perhaps, an “AI” entity generates memes and Clay puts in the “human touch”. I continue to enjoy the “WOT” content, mostly for those side-splitting, blow coffee out my nose memes! The thought provoking ones tend to dwell in my brain for a longer period of time. I appreciate that Clay follows the “family first” credo: Lacrosse nets and minor league baseball.

      1. Digital Editor: Responsible for writing original and curation of outside content for the Knife Magazine Website. Updates the site as needed to ensure fresh content for return readers. Fulfill such editorial tasks as required for the print magazine.

        1. Please, you had me at “curation”. Ironically, this term was in a help-wanted ad in our local newspaper: “Wanted-Bud trimmer to curate cannabis sativa and cannabis indica plants at licensed medical marihuana facility in Western Maryland. Experience helpful but not required.”

        The “Editor” title means you are the last one out of the office on Friday and you turn off the lights.

        Add the “Digital” moniker and, No lights and every day is Monday, this world never sleeps or stops! 🙂

        Time management is a skill I don’t have so could never do that job!

  2. “National Knife Day” coincided with the “William F. Moran Museum & Foundation” annual picnic at the historic “Bill Moran Forge” in Middletown, Maryland. But, first . . .
    Regarding Clay’s “punt on the WOT”, I completely understand his priorities. Did those lacrosse nets come with IKEA-like instructions? Wife treating family to minor league baseball game definitely Boo-yah!
    The “Moran picnic” was a happy and fun event! Everybody brought something. Baked macaroni and cheese, crockpots full of meatballs, potato salads, lemonade, iced-tea, sodas, ham, fried chicken (Catered by the “Foundation”); and, a sheet cake of “Bill’s Forge”. Knife talk and show ‘n’ tell was abundant. I think everyone was “carrying”, so the serrated plastic knives were un-necessary! I was asked by a few people to put my “peddler bag” knives out on a table. No customs; Just the production knives. Well, it was Christmas in August! I sold the “Benchmade-“Barrage 580-2”; the “Kershaw-Leek, Orange County Chopper”; the “Bear & Son-Incognito”; the “CRKT-CEO Compact”; and, a couple of non-MIB slip-joints by Case and Buck. I gave a “SOG” folder to a friend who liked it. I owed him for some “grinding OJT”.
    I need to mention that I received my “Blade”, October 2024, on Friday. This issue’s theme is “Damascus”. “Bill Moran” is featured in an article by Mike Haskew with assistance from Jay Hendrickson, MS/ABS; B.R. Hughes; Dave Ellis, MS/ABS and others.
    Ernest Emerson, President-Emerson Knives, Inc., wrote a excellent letter, “Protect Our Industry” to the “Readers Respond” on Page 6. This letter is focused on the intent of the mainland Chinese government and its Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to undermine and destroy American industries and all of our manufacturing capabilities. “Emerson” states that the main thrust of the “CCP/Government” effort is to “flood the U.S. market with targeted products, e.g. knives, designed to put U.S. companies out of business”. He continues to explain “how” Chinese knife manufacturers can make an American-designed and engineered knife for $3.72, mostly due to child-labor and an absence of livable wages. An outstanding statement by “Emerson”, ” . . .due to the low-cost of producing knives, sometimes a Chinese manufacturer sells their knives “by the pound (sic)” instead of by the unit.”.
    He ends his letter: “Take a stand. Buy American-protect our industry”. I TOTALLY AGREE.
